Game is bugged to shit.
After transitioning from Chapter 2 to Chapter 3, for some reason I had to re-craft all the satchels I'd already acquired.
The Winter Gunslinger outfit has disappeared from both the clothes locker and the horse, and it now won't let me save any new custom outfits.
I've acquired the four animals on the third hunting request, but it won't let me mail them to the taxidermist.
The horse continues to occasionally be very stupid and forget that it can jump over things, sending Arthur flying at least once per hour.

I didn’t know you could mail things to the taxidermist.
Sometimes I think this game has too much going on. Or the narrative doesn’t allow the game to explore these kinds of things enough.

A number of times during development features were added and needed to be bolted onto the existing code. It’s why odd controller combos are required in places. They’d already used the obvious buttons for other things
The taxidermist mission seems to be the most bugged. It’s totally unavailable if you don’t start it early enough in the game

Incredibly, with probably over 250 hours in the game I never experienced (or maybe noticed) any significant bugs. Given the scale and scope of the game that's pretty remarkable.

I never completed this back in the day. I have my save file but decided to start again as it’s been so long.
It’s a bit clunky but looks lovely. Not sure I’ll ever complete it but I’m really enjoying being back in it. Just arrived in chapter 2 and looking forward to getting out and about!

You can also miss the hunting missions in the train stations. Which means you also won’t get the wooden squirrel to put on your mantelpiece This is an actual bug, you need to start them before a certain point in the game or they are totally unavailable - eerily similar to the bug in GTA V that prevents you doing the UFO missions with Franklin I've acquired the four animals on the third hunting request, but it won't let me mail them to the taxidermist. I didn’t know you could mail things to the taxidermist. In an odd update to this, last night I figured that if it wasn't going to let me mail the damn things, I might as well get rid of them. Sold them to the Trapper, then as soon as I exit his shop menu, a notification flashes up about that hunting request. I look at the notification in detail, and it reminds me that, yes, I still have to mail all four of them, with none of the checkboxes marked. So the quest is still active, it just won't let me actually fucking do it.
After the fucking arse-ache it was to track down an oriole and a robin in the first place, fuck that noise, I won't bother.
Bugs aside, this is still one of the most technically impressive games ever made. I'm continually impressed by how good it looks, despite it being a last-gen title. Little things about it fascinate me, like the way when I did the Black Belle mission, the bodies of the men coming to arrest her made physically accurate mud-angels according to the way they'd fallen. I cannot think of any other game that's bothered to invest time and resources in mud-deformation technology:
Now in chapter 4, and just did several amusing side missions in a row, the Charles Châtenay and Marko Dragic ones in particular. I know where the third stage of the Dragic one is going from a previous playthrough, but I had completely blanked the Charles In Drag bit.
Also, during one of the vaudeville shows at the theatre, when Benjamin Lazarus called for a volunteer from the audience for his catching a bullet in the teeth routine, I shot him in the dick. He reacted appropriately, howling in agony and cursing at me as his assistant dragged him off stage.
Cougars can fuck off. They are basically this games' equivalent of the eagles in Far Cry 4. Like a goddamn stealth torpedo on legs.
Haven't found the Saint Denis Vampire yet, although while picking up a cigarette card in one of the backstreets, I heard a familiar voice from inside a house. It was none other than Mr Trelawney, having a conversation with his family who apparently lived there. Arthur called out to him, and Trelawney got flustered at the fact that his home had been discovered. It came up later with him in camp, where he explained that the reason he goes off and does crime is basically all down to wanderlust, and The Wife Wouldn't Understand.

You have got to be fucking kidding me:
It's Chapter 3 where things started to fuck up, I'm convinced of it. I drew Chapter 2 out for ages, hardly anything went wrong apart from the odd shader glitch. Chapter 3 rolls up, and suddenly the UI just does what it fucking wants, decides whether you can hand quests in or not, and apparently that fucking deputy badge from Rhodes is the cause of my clothing inventory woes, according to Them Internets.
Now in Chapter 4, all of a sudden I can hand that fucking quest in and now I'm on to the next one.
I could do without the placeholder text obscuring the timer on the Five Finger Fillet game as well:

Damn. I told myself I was just going to concentrate on missions, but I’m now spending time doing the hunting challenges. This is why I never finished it in the first place. It’s amazing though and I’m really glad I restarted.

How deep do you have to get into the story before the hunting, fishing, collection things open up and you can run around just doing them?

You can start doing the challenges from Chapter 2. Make sure you pick up the hunting request from the post office/station in Valentine, as it becomes unavailable later due to aforementioned bugs.

Revisiting on ps5/ps4 for the first time since then, only at chapter 2 but my god the game while not perfect is as close as you are going to get, truly stunning, one word that comes to mind is CLASS. Due to playing this it made me go and watch Hateful Eight again 😁

Thanks. I want to play the open world part of the game but I have absolutely no interest in the slow as fuck story and the mission structure (with a bunch of inst-fail mechanics) that Rockstar provide. I loved RDO so if it's only a couple of hours I might just give it a go because the world itself is incredible.

Like I said before the controls are a bit clunky at times and Arthur turns like an articulated lorry, but the world they have built is amazing.

I honestly think I’ve missed out on chunks of content without even realising. I did moan about the game twice over on these forums, so it’s no doubt deserved, but I don’t remember much of these side missions or challenges at all.

The only side mission I know I've missed out on so far was a stagecoach robbery with Bill and Tilly in Chapter 3, due to the order I did the main missions placing Bill in Rhodes and locking that job off before the end of the chapter.
I have been completely unable to trigger Pearsons' second camp request, which is apparently an incredibly rare occurrence.

Fucking hell. I actually managed to find all the cigarette cards. I assumed I would have to find the ones I was missing in Blackwater when I eventually get there, but I actually managed to get the last of them from packs of premium cigarettes.
Managed to do the fifth hunting request as well (toads are bastards) and got a nice thank you letter from the taxidermist.
And then wouldn't you know it, just as I think I'm done collecting stuff for a while, this bloke who makes ridiculous hats in Saint Denis literally hands me another fucking list of shit to acquire. Fuck you, Algernon.

Damn this is such a nice looking game.
Think I’m approaching the end of chapter 2 and really enjoying it again so far. I’ve got to stop myself getting sidetracked with the challenges but it’s really hard.

Speaking of which, with the PS5 Pro announcement coming tomorrow and a need for Sony to really sell its acvalue, a Pro patched RDR2 would be a really good shout if they could get it closer to the high end PC experience.

Rockstar are definitely selling that patch as a new version of the game, like they did with that GTA V one.

Also still dipping in and out, now onto Chapter 5 after finally finishing Saint Denis. So many distractions. A ridiculously impressive game with loading times now more bearable to n the PS5. And as Rob says, janky controls but otherwise it's wonderful.

If I shat as frequently as this horse does, I would be absolutely emaciated.
Actually getting quite tired of the sight of the thing constantly going plop-plops.

Fucking finally, might have to pick that up.
Maybe let's see how janky the port is though. Rockstar have a habit of making their ports either sublime (Max Payne 3, GTA 5) or shite (GTA remasters, GTA 4).

Was really hoping they would announce a PS5/SeriesX SKU of RDR2 to go alongside announcing the PC version of the first game.
The IQ on the PS4 version is awful and completely ruins the presentation. The 30fps cap just compounds the clunky and unwieldy control scheme and gameplay.

Always wanted to play RDR so this interests me greatly, depending on price and quality.

Fave bit of original RDR, after doing some pretty despicable slaughtering of the local brothel population, my character says to himself "what is wrong with me?".
