The cover looks great, both the regular and deluxe editions.
Problem is the WWE games have gone down the drain since 2K/Visual Concepts got involved, and now they don't even have Yuke's for all the technical programming. The last one, first game without Yuke's, was a trainwreck. It made Cyberpunk 2077 look polished. The more 2K tries to make it a simulation rather than try to make a fun slamfest, the less interesting it is to me.
I'm not even a big AEW fan, but I'm more looking forward to their game since they got Yuke's and the Virtual Pro-Wrestling lead behind them.

Series has been poor longer than that though with Yukes hardly putting out polished work.
It's needed a break and extra dev time since before the Xbox One and PS4 came out.

Think Def Jam on Gamecube was the last wrestling game I loved.
Liked the early 360/PS3 games but it definitely started going very downhill once T2 got hold of it.
Raw 2 had a chance to be something special but ended up being a buggy mess. Still has the best create mode IMO

Def Jam games were EXCELLENT. I miss Aki's wrestling games so much. That's why I have hopes for the AEW game, with the lead of those Aki titles leading here as well.
Day of Reckoning titles on Gamecube were good too. Here Comes the Pain, Smackdown vs Raw 2006.
Golden era of wrestling games was definitely N64-PS2 though, no argument there.

I didn’t mind the early 2K games. My biggest gripe was that Universe mode would just lock you into the same matches over and over, and there weren’t any story cut-scenes like even the PS1 Smackdown games had (run-ins, backstage attacks etc).
Each version seemed to have less content than the previous one too. Then it finally shit itself to death with the last one.
Anyone buying them at launch was a mug even when they were good.

Best wrestling game I've played recently is Fire Pro Wrestling World. You can download entire rosters of wrestlers. Well worth your time.

I haven't watched WWE for a long time but reading between the lines.. Vince saying he is too clean cut screams to me that he wanted him to be the typical WWE heel character hating America.. you know the one.
I wondered what Kushida was up to and of course he's in a typical Japanese racist gimmick lol. I honestly don't get why this gets a pass?

I can imagine Vince wanting him to pay the bad American hating heel but it's crazy he hasn't got past that character yet and can't just give him something else. The Smackdown hacker gimmick had fans interested but injury put a stop to it.
I'll wait though because it was only last week these reports simply claimed he was given maternity leave and they just hadn't come up with a way to bring him back yet and now it's all this.
According to reports Cody Rhodes contract has ran out

They’ve retconned Yoko into now being a Samoan who travelled to Japan to become a sumo.
But you can still just go watch all his old matches where he’s definitely Japanese and can’t speak English

Yeah the business has always been pretty racist. If you can't find someone foreign enough you could always out them under a mask and say they're from wherever. See Paul Diamond as Kato, Savio Vega as Kwang the Puerto Rican ninja, and everyone who ever went under the Kendo Nagasaki hood. Don't get me started on the Kamala and Saba Simba gimmicks.
The whole Chavo Guerrero as Kerwin White thing feels like a crazy fever dream these days as well.

Adam Panucci came up with Eddie's Lie, cheat and steal gimmick.
Always loved it and it gave Eddie the chance to do some more creative cheating. Definitely not the most offensive gimmick they have had.
You could easily write a book on racist gimmicks in wrestling and I don't see them going away after Vince sadly.
