I for one will be cheering Eddie Howe’s England all the way to their unlucky defeat to the hosts in the final

Perhaps they can have a public beheading before each game.
Really get the crowd going.

Honestly what a bunch of cunts. (FIFA, though obviously Saudi Arabia too.) Is there nothing we can do?

Winning the Asia bid for the World Cup whilst also campaigning to be part of Europe so their teams can be in the Champions League is peak brass neck and I bet both happen.

I think we've reached, or very near, every major sporting event being hosted in Saudi Arabia.

FIFA is irredeemable, it needs binning. Utterly corrupt. It's all about the money, never mind the game. I, mistakenly, and naively, thought Blatter would be the worst and things might improve, but Infantino is taking it to whole new levels. If people didn't go or watch it would maybe make them think twice, but with the Saudi cash, it won't make a difference. Plus, we all like to watch a world cup, so that's not likely. A WC or Euros is pretty much the only time my missus will willingly watch a game or two.

Qatar proved that overall, despite some dissenting voices, that people really don't give a shit if their country has a chance of achieving sporting glory

A small sliver of hope is that apparently after a brief spike attendances and tv viewing of the Saudi League has absolutely plummeted back to practically nothing, which is precisely what happened when China tried to do the same thing a while back.
While international football is different and the World Cup is guaranteed huge engagement, the wholesale takeover of football that was being threatened hopefully won’t happen.

While international football is different and the World Cup is guaranteed huge engagement, the wholesale takeover of football that was being threatened hopefully won’t happen. That is good news. European football has many problems but it has history, traditions and generations of passionate supporters who come out to watch a nil all draw on a cold wet Tuesday, they are what keep the game alive. An utterly artificial fanbase, with players who only care about the paycheck and games driven purely by commerce will always be fleeting.

An utterly artificial fanbase, with players who only care about the paycheck and games driven purely by commerce will always be fleeting. 'I dont know why they are booing Hendo' was top, top, top, top, top class self-delusion. You wouldnt see that level of commitment from a foreign manager.
