Tim Horton’s is ok here. It’s quite cheap compared to Starbucks so they’re slways busy. There’s waaaaaay better donuts but Tim’s are pretty reliable and super convenient Will second this. Timmie's in .ca is... fine I guess, the donuts are consistent.
The coffee though. Wow! The coffee is awful! It's so bad that they do a deal if you buy coffee, you can get a breakfast sandwich for $3. It all went down hill after the BK buyout.
But yeah, super convenient wins.
Also hello! Extremely long-time lurker, from all the way back to the EG forum days. I can't believe this was the thread that made me decide to create an account.

Welcome!! I have no idea who or what a Tim Hortons is, so I'm going to assume it has something to do with elephants. Since this is what pops into my head every time I read the name: and most of the rest of the time too.. tbh.

I’ve only had a Tim Horton’s in Canada so can’t comment on the franchises that have started popping up over here. But when I was over there they have that same thing as McDonpads in that they’re there exactly when you need them. Like at the end of a long coach journey when you feel like death and a coffee and a bag of Timbits is just enough to keep you from losing your souls. The coffee could be cat shit and I wouldn’t care.
There is a line though. Pret coffee is the absolute worst. Actually undrinkable. Just grab an expensive sandwich and get the fuck out.

He wasn’t a Gretzky or anything, he was an Enforcer / Goon. Imagine if Vinnie Jones opened up a chain of pastry shops and you’d be about right. He died in a car crash age 44, under the influence.

I was in Portishead a couple weekends ago at a coffee place and they had some kind of sticky cardamom spiced swirl thing… since then everything has been garbage. In life and otherwise.

That's the problem when you peak.
Now you're going to be found in 3 years time in a squat littered with burnt spoons and pastry dough smeared all over the walls.

Cardamom pods everywhere. Just can’t get the spices right.

There's local hipsterish kind of deli near me, they do decent stuff there, all local and/or organic kind of stuff. Bit pricey, but it's close so often go there for a coffee and chicken sandwhich or something for lunch if I'm WFH.
This time I also bought a cinnamon swirl provided by a local baker. It was good but, my god, there was a lot of sugar. Also massive, probably twice the size of what I'd normally consider a standard pastry. I considered only eating half and having the rest tomorrow, but being a disgusting greedy cunt ended up eating the second half 10 minutes later.
It was very good but definitely one of those things I just knew was awful for me. Absoutely no way of pretending there's any need for this much sugar.

No-one buys or eats pastries thinking they're not terrible for you, whether sugar, butter or (usually) both. Bloody nice with a cuppa though.

That's true, but this felt particularly bad for me. The level of cinnamon sugar dusting was far greater than most pastries I've had. It was another level of decadence.

God I followed a shepherd’s pie recipe off the Guinness website the other day. Didn’t really think of the amounts until I put them in. 120g of butter? 150 mls of double cream? Shit was swimming in sat fats. Felt ashamed of myself by the end. Had to shower twice.
