I don't know tbh. I could easily be misremembering and it was a two. I was still in shock at the most tense half hour of gameplay I've done.
Yeah, true. I was certainly more gung-ho on my solo outing but eh... Yeah. Boom.

I've not binned it. It's amazing! Sadly it's down to time! Just haven't been back to it as got waylayed by LotF then AW2 amongst others. I'm definitely going back to it though. Might fire it up over the next few days actually.

PS5 version out today. I'm downloading for later. Can't wait to have a look. It's a game I still play off and on (and continue to be shit at) but I'm looking forward to seeing what it looks like, as thought the PS4 version looked a bit poo at times.

Is it showing free for you? On xbox and pc it’s currently asking for £20 which is wrong as it’s should be free for previous owners.

Yeah, it was a free upgrade on PS5. Sounds like an error on the MS front which I'm sure they'll sort.

So I'm still reliably awful at this. Looks amazing though, a real upgrade from before. Had a few games with the boy (including one where, weirdly, he died twice and I lived, even though that was mainly through cowardice).
It's awesome though. A solid upgrade and the new map is cool. Had a couple of games solo as well and it remains one of the creepiest, most tense experiences in a game, ever.

Can’t play until Monday but all hunts reddit is moaning about how bad the new ui is on pc. Nice to hear it looks good . The min specs are quite a bit higher than the old ones.

Don’t really care about the UI to be honest. If anything I think it’s more user friendly. People do like a moan though.

Yeah one of the only games where I would say head set is an absolute must. Almost no point even loading it up without one.

Yeah you really need a pair of cans. All the better to hear sneaky hunters sneak up on you and then be too old and slow to react before they kill you.

Been playing this in bursts over the weekend with the boy. Typical example of a game:
1) We spawn in, use our darksight, head for a clue
2) Stealithy take out a couple of enemies on the way, get a clue and head to the next
3) A gunfight takes place somewhere with lots of explosions. Someone is taking on a bounty target
4) We leg it there and sneak up on the building, plotting what to do
5) I seem to make as much noise as humanly possible, get covered in flies / fire, run off screaming, get shot in the back by a hunter
6) The boy kills four hunters in a row without taking a breath, revives me
7) The other hunters are still in there, and are now banishing
8) I see them run out the building and give chase
9) I get shot in the head
10) They get away
11) The boy extracts, sighing loudly

Had a blast on this over the weekend without headphones - pointless indeed.
The new update looks great and it runs really nicely on the Series S. Not sure I can justify buying a pair of decent headphones for one game though. I have some decent SteelSeries headphones that I use for PC, PS5 and Switch but they don't work on Xbox.

It's such a cool game. I had a few solo games as well, just taking my time, sneaking about. I'm down to the free hunters now though as I've died so much and ran out of coins. Bit of a bummer.

I love it, it's such a unique idea and it plays like very little else out there.
Just wish I had a decent headset and a few mates to play it with (really isn't much fun playing solo, especially when you suck).

I think solo you've just got to play it differently. Chances are you're not going to take on a bounty target yourself, so you have to be smart if you want to get one. Wait until a duo or trio have taken it out and then ambush them. Easier said than done of course. You can also - if you think they are close to winning - wade into the fight and attack them whilst they are taking it on. Happened to us the other night. A solo with poison rounds went for us as we were taking on the spider. Shot me through a window and killed the boy. I legged it away, healed but then because I'm such an awful shot, lost in the ensuing gunfight.

If you didn’t know already when you are solo you get paired with lower level players.
I just couldn’t play it without headphones. The game is so hard already that I’d just be woeful without them. Definitely get more kills because of the audio.
On the pc and series x it looks better (especially with the Xbox version) but performance suffers. Xbox I’ve had pretty big frame drops when didn’t on the old version and on pc I’ve gone from 144fps to 90 but I didn’t have dlss on.
I had a good game as mosin sniper just now. Stayed in a tree area high above the boss lair picking people off whilst my son was in the compound killing the other team mates that were looking to get the revive. I felt dirty though as I hate snipers and so very very rarely be one.

Had a couple of games last night. One where we actually managed to extract with a bounty and another where the boy got taken out leaving me myself. A rather exciting few encounters with rival hunters ensued with me not only managing to stay alive but hitting and then killing a couple. I did eventually get taken out when two teams converged on the mine I was in, started fighting each other and I got caught in the crossfire.
Last match was at night and we stumbled into a cabin another team were in, which was nuts. Shooting through windows, panicked vaulting over fences, fire everywhere and bullets whizzing past. We died but it was great. The guys were rank 90 odd anyway so there was no chance.
Such a good game.

What are the essentials you guys use for every build?
I'll always have a knife, knuckle dusters, medkit and some sort of pistol.

I'm using free hunters and whatever their defaults are at the mo to build my cash back up. Medkit, knuckle duster, knife, dynamite, decent pistol and something with a scope. I never do shotguns. I normally bring an ammo box as well.

Essential for me is always the full stamina shot and probably the full regen shot. The stamina is always taken as you can move quickly through the map, never get caught out by ai and you can melt bosses with melee equipment. Regen is handy in drawn out fight if you are getting hit. Knife is great but if you have the stamina shot the spear is better for everything. Weapon wise there are only a few bad guns, otherwise everything is viable depending on play style. If you are rocking a rifle and want a pistol as the secondary then I only use the officer, swift or new army if I don’t have fanning as they are the fastest fire rate if you get caught at closer range. The cheap Caldwell conversion pistol is probably the best fanning pistol in the game once your hunter has fanning. The win field centennial with bleed rounds is great all rounder and when you get a hit you know they need to heal up so great for pressure. |
