I already have two years of Ultimate set so I’m good, but that sounds better in the long run. Seeing as I don’t care about PC or Streaming so much, I’d much rather pay $60 for a year of regular GamePass. AND have it include online too? Yeah, much better deal IMO.

Doesn't sound like regular Xbox Game Pass. It should only include a selection of games (mostly first party ones, it seems, and probably not the new ones either: there's Forza 4 but not 5, Halo 5 but not Infinite, etc). They are also ending GwG, and even though the games have been real bad as of late, it's still another negative for the same price.

I can’t remember the last time I’ve played through a GwG, so I’d probably still take an all-first party version of GamePass for the same price over what we’re getting currently.

I wonder what the last ever month of Games with Gold will be. Do they go out with a bang, or keep it subdued so people don't feel like they're losing something good?

I think Yoku's island express is the last GWG game I've played, and it was probably a couple of years before that that I touched one. They're absolute shite these days aside from that rare exception, so no major loss.

FFS, I really liked claiming my Marshmallow MineSweeper 3D type games each month

I know it's become the butt of many jokes recently, but I didn't mind some the lesser known little games they dumped on Gold.
Problem with sticking bangers on there was that I (more often than not) already had them. Latest PS+ games being a perfect example.

Yeah, but that's not what this sounds like. It's a "some-first party version of GamePass" which might also do the job for you if you're in no rush for the latest and greatest to land in the thing. Starfield in 2025, etc. etc. Nice to get rid of the confusion at least. Gold. Game Pass. PC. Ultimate. Slim that shit down.

Bit confusing, but looks like I might be able to downgrade to Console subscription, unless I want EA Play membership (and assuming the non mention of online multiplayer for that tier is a mistake), as I don't need PC gamepass or cloud gaming.

The non mention of online multiplayer on the "Console" tier isn't a mistake, it doesn't include it, period.
Definitely going to confuse the unititiated. It's always been like that of course, Gold has online multiplayer, standard Game Pass doesn't. But now they're unified under the same banner having a higher tier not include a lower tier feature looks a bit silly.

Huh, I might have been tempted to go down to the console version if it included online multiplayer- it's definitely a bit odd that it doesn't. How many Game Pass games do you have to play for it to be worth it? I reckon I've played and enjoyed 3 or 4 this year (most recently NFS Unbound, next one will probably be Starfield), which would have been more expensive to buy outright, but not by much if I was paying full price for the sub.

You can’t have Core include it yet the more expensive ‘standard’ gamepass not have it. It makes no sense at all.

With the exception of DRM bollocks like Diablo 4 I couldn’t tell you the last time I actually played an online game with the intention of playing with other people. I imagine a lot of GP users may well be single player/offline oriented, so perhaps not that important a feature for them to have online multiplayer?

It’s just not gonna work that the customer upgrades and finds themselves downgraded for a key part of modern gaming. Especially with the “always online” shite of even some single player stuff these days.

So, I assume this means the whole upgrade to Ultimate Game Pass from Xbox Gold for £1 is no longer going to be available?
Damn. September was the month I was going to need to renew!

I think they stopped that already when they hiked the price of GP a couple of weeks ago.

Oh really? Didn't catch that bit changed along with the price.
Not sure whether it is going to be worth it for me without that deal. Barely used, with the last game I played being Hi-Fi Rush and not much before that. For about £50 a year, only playing 3 or 4 games over the year is fine, but at £8/£9 a month (or whatever the PC Gamepass costs), I really need to be using it monthly to justify it. I'll probably just sub as when I want to play something (or, more likely, just forget about it entirely as I will have plenty of other stuff to play).

It still works, they've just changed the conversion ratio from Gold/Core to Ultimate to 3:2, instead of 1:1.
So 3 years of Gold from CDKeys at £34.99 a pop would mean 2 years of Ultimate will cost you £106 with the £1 conversion (which they've reintroduced), £53 a year.
Still substantially reduced over £156 a year at £12.99 a month.
Can go even cheaper with foreign codes, possibly as low as £37'ish a year.
What remains to be seen is how available and discounted Core codes are once this all beds in. Gold code stock (which will just redeem as 'Core') won't last forever obviously.

So probably conversion will be Gold to Core 1:1 Which means any conversion from gold to ultimate should be done before September. Mine expires in November...If I convert while I'm still subscribed I'd get the even worse conversione rate, right?

Yes, whilst subscribed to Ultimate the Gold/Core conversion rate is 3:1, so 12 months Gold/Core gets you 4 months Ultimate. Also, the new 3:2 conversion rate for Gold/Core is already in effect, doesn't matter if you convert now or in September when Core launches.

I'm not certain, but when I did it last year whilst already subscribed, I had to pay a full month of Ultimate to convert rather than just £1. I assume this was because I was already subscribed, but not sure. It still worked out as a big reduction even compared to just getting the standard PC version (which is all I need without an Xbox).

I think you need to be lapsed for a substantial amount of time before the $1 for Ultimate discount to work. I let me sub lapse if I’m not using it enough, and many times it’s been on sale for $1 but when I click subscribe, it’s go up the normal $15. I think I only got the $1 sale to work for me twice in total?

Nowadays, I'm more likely to just subscribe for a cheap month (usually if I find a deal) whenever they have added at least two or three games I'm interested in. Last time it was in October, for Scorn and Return to Monkey Island. Before that, it was Hi-Fi Rush and Lego Star Wars. All games that I have no real interest in replaying, so it worked out well for me.
Next time I want to play Jusant, so I will probably just subscribe when it's savailable, and then catch up to other games that they have added in the meantime.

Once the rest of GP ultimate runs out, probably just gamepass console for anything I went to play for a few months. Can see MS making the converison to GPU worse in a year or so time.
MS has been slowly killing GwG to make people ok when they kill it off (which is a common move for companies, they make a service worse, so people are ok when they finally pull the plug) While GwG has been some unknown games for a while, some has been ok to play like Hoa, darkwood is suppose to be good if you like hard as nails horror. there was one where you interact with shadows (not contrast) Lamentum seems it might a good horror game. Gamepass Core seems pointless unless you have not played xbox games, it seems like cost saving move from xbox

There are very few games I play online multiplayer in that aren’t free-to-play… it’s basically GTA Online and the PvP/covenant stuff in Soulsborne games. I’d consider switching from Ultimate to Console as long as I can still get my Fortnite and Warzone DMZ fixes.
