RRR was brilliant, that's my pick ...however, I spoke to some testers I work with who are based in India, and according to them, it's a bit uncool to like RRR. One of them suggested this film to me, which is by the same director and apparently is now on Netflix? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eega(but it's not on mine... maybe I need a VPN...) Not cool? Sometimes you don't realise how something in your own backyard is so cool I sought out RRR substitutes, but everything paled in comparison. Will check it out. Not really my genre (on account of being a coward) but this Indian horror film comes highly recommended Tumbbad
Watched the first 10 mins and did indeed shit my pants. Left for when I grow some balls.

Oh I loved Licorice Pizza - thought that was released in 2021. That'll be my number 1 too then!

Really want to watch RRR. Do.It. We all need films you can just lose yourself in. You will find yourself grinning

Prey or Dune for me.
Probably Prey for the surprise factor of it being properly good.

The runtime is what has put me off, same with Everything Everywhere, but I will watch it this weekend.

We are going to be doing RRR over xmas, heard nothing but good things.
For 2022 cinema releases it's a toss up between Top Gun: Maverick and EEAAO (Jaws in 3D was exceptional too).
Probably best though was There Will Be Blood which I had not got round to watching in the 15 years since it came out!

RRR is probably the perfect Christmas family film TBH, as long as everyone is ok with subtitles

I saw Elvis at the cinema, it is definitely worth watching, even if you’re not a fan

Oh I loved Licorice Pizza - thought that was released in 2021. That'll be my number 1 too then! I was very disappointed. I didn't think it was bad, just didn't like it as much as I'd hoped. Same, I really love Phantom Thread, There Will be Blood and The Master, so was really looking forward to it. Ended up feeling it wasn't particularly special, rambling in places and never fully was able to justify its icky central plot. Been a bit of a weird year with films and feel that we have had much the same problem as with games, where the pandemic effects have really been felt. Everything, Everywhere, All At Once would probably be the best for me, but even that felt like it could have done with a trim. Besides that, there are quite a few that I liked a lot, but also found flawed. Men, was really good, but definitely not for everyone. Also, the every man played by Rory Kinnear idea crossed from being a bit silly to absurd as soon as there was a teenage one. The Northman looked the part and enjoyable, but wasn't anywhere near as good as The Lighthouse or The Witch. Smile was really solid horror and well crafted, but not much more. X was more interesting, but also not a total success. Top Gun Maverick was a big blockbuster and I know lots loved it. I thought it was fine and just rehash of the original (even if I would also add that I think it was an improvement). Looking at end of year lists, a lot of the films seem to be very small releases that you wouldn't get to see at your local unless you are in a city and aren't on mainstream streaming platforms, so haven't seen many of them.

Oh I assumed it was an initialism for something. Thanks. I think it stands for Roar, Rise, Revolt, or something like that. It's easy to miss amongst the tiger punching.

Top Gun Moana Eeaao
Top Gun blew me away, such a good sequel. Moana I watched with my niece for the first time and it was brilliant. First cartoon in years I genuinely loved. Eeaao was just bizarre and great.

I am in the minority but I couldn't get on with Top Gun. Just did not carry me along, so many callbacks.
But that's a me problem
I was late on Moana as well, such a joy

Well, the best film(s) I watched in 2022 were the Lord of the Rings movies, but I've seen those dozens of times so I'm not going to count them.
Top Gun Maverick probably wins it for me too.
Honorable mentions for Dr Strange and the Multiverse of Madness (which was good fun) and Iron Man 3 (which was better than I remembered)
I really need to watch Everything Everywhere...

Prey or Dune for me. Probably Prey for the surprise factor of it being properly good. Oh yeah, good call. Prey was great. Edit: yeah, I thought Dune was 2021, but it was mentioned so many times in this thread I just took everyone’s word for it. So revising list, Prey, Wakanda and The Batman.

Not seen too many 2022 films (watched a lot of films for the first time though). This year films would be a toss up between The Batman, Prey and Don't Worry Darling.
Still need to watch RRR, Everything Everything and Barbarian so those could end up on the list too.

I was chatting to an Indian guy I work with and he had a similar response. Asked him to reccomend some Indian movies and he suggested 3 Idiots, though I've not seen that yet. Looks nothing like RRR though... As for my top film this year, it's EEAAO. Top Gun Maverick and Prey were great too.

I suppose Bollywood is fucking massive. It's a bit like an Indian saying to us he loves Harry Potter or something.
