Just got back from Doctor Strange 2 was a bit average tbh but loved the nods to the fans with a few very brief scenes. The film itself is a bit of a mess.

Just out, very Raimi, which suits me but yeah as much as I liked it I can see a lot of MCU fans not feeling the same. And as said above watch Wandavision.

The more I see 'very raimi' and 'may not go down well with MCU fans', the more pumped my temps get.

Even if I wasn't a Raimi fan I'd have still enjoyed it but I can see why quite a few usual MCU people won't. His fingerprints are definitely all over it.
Also even though I said watch Wandavision a decent 15 min series recap would actually suffice.

I mean, FWIW most MCU fans appreciate the Raimi Spideys too, so I don't think that'll be a barrier of entry. It's more the Garfield films and the later X-Men films which were divisive.

The film is more Evil Dead Raimi than Spider-Man Raimi though.

I really enjoyed it. Thought it had a fantastic pace.
Looking forward to the angry parents taking their 3 year olds to see it 😊

I really enjoyed Dr. Strange just now. But then again I also love Evil Dead. And as stated above, its definitely more Evil Dead than Spider-Man.

Spider-Man 1's final fight struck me as pretty Evil Dead at the time. But yeah, 2 and 3 didn't have that much of the Evil Dead about them, although his style of shots and cuts and reaction shots was still there.
Oz the great and powerful didn't really have a lot of that stuff though, but it also wasn't as memorable.
My fave film of his might be The Quick and The Dead, although I think I'm probably alone on that. I love the various camera movements in the quick draw duels.

I dunno, there's one scene with Doctor Octopus in 2 that's just about the most Evil Dead thing since Evil Dead.

I'd say bits of MoM are even more hard-core Raimi than that scene.
BUT just as I think anyone going into the film expecting it to be another feelgood multiversal team-up movie like No Way Home will be disappointed, I also think people going in expecting it to be a full-on trip might also get disappointed too. It's definitely still a Marvel movie, a superhero movie, but clearly one directed by Sam Raimi.
And that's definitely all I'll say, don't wanna spoil anything for anybody!

In retrospect its kind of amazing that Raimi got away with putting that hospital scene into Spiderman 2. Its pure Evil Dead.

Even watching Iron Man 1, you can see they massively toned down the impact of the violence after that. It's all lasers and dissolving but nobody bleeds.

About a year ago my kids asked to watch the MCU and - despite my warnings - insisted on starting with Iron Man. They didn't make it past the opening convoy attack in the desert, it was way too intense.
To be fair, they were quite young (5 and 8, maybe) and have a relatively low intesity tolerance. Quite different from my childhood spent watching RoboCop and American Werewolf. Maybe I've failed as a father.
Keep meaning to try again with something a bit more palatable, like Spider-Man, Ant-Man, or even Cap.

Are we in Darkman levels of Raimi insanity? Also if you want a Raimi film in all but name, the 'children's' movie Nightbooks on Netflix is pure evil dead for the last 25 mins (its produced by Raimi). Its also far too scary for young kids.

And from memory, Ultron cuts Klaue's arm off and Quicksilver is riddled with bullets at the end of AoU, Thor loses an eye in Ragnarok, Tony gets stabbed in Infinity War, Thanos is decapitated at the start of Endgame.
They don't shy from violence but they don't linger.

So basically any PG13 superhero film since Batman then?

It's not like good old fashioned 80s movie violence though. It's pretty sanitised relatively.

They don't show blood. That appears to be the difference between a 12A and a 15.
IIRC that's why they made the Orcs' blood black in LOTR.

It’s the way they show it that matters, because they do show it.

Well define what “they don’t show blood” means because it is present on screen. Are we talking splatters and grisled remains? Then no. But bleeding from wounds to the face and body, yeah. A dude being shredded by a propeller, yeah. Thor’s burnt and bloody eye-socket, yeah. It is present on screen.
They don’t seem to like visually depicting stabbing/impaling anymore, hence the recent cut to The Boat Show.

His palm is covered in blood after the fight in the lobby.
