I read an article that reckoned not many people were actually watching Hawkeye. Don’t know exact tracking numbers but I think they said it was like half of wandavision.

BUT on the other hand, Disney says that its new show that it spent hundreds of millions on is going gangbusters, and that I should watch it because everyone is talking about it.

I’ve been looking forward to Hawkeye, more than any of the others. I just think these Marvel shows lack any engaging hook to piss about with all that eagerly waiting for a week for the next episode lark. So I’m just waiting for the 6 episodes to be available to blast through over a weekend.

I think WandaVision and Loki managed that, as they had puzzle-box mysteries at their core. Whether either of them stuck the landing is up for debate. I think the problem with the mysteries in shows like these is that the audience goes crazy with speculation; I genuinely thought for a minute Wanda was going to have a proper full-on crossover with the Fox X-cast. Here, we're already seeing Wilson Fisk trending because of that one shot of "Uncle's" hand, so if it turns out to be someone new or random or less imortant, it'll feel like a let-down.

Won’t that character be part of the Sony-verse if they’ve got Spiderman back?

I wonder how Hawkeye’s ratings performance is being hit by the lack of covid lockdowns.
Its been easy to binge all day working from home but now we’re all back at school and the office there’s less time to squeeze everything in

I’m hoping Uncle turns out to be Wilson Fisk, but it’s probably just that moustache guy with the swords.

Hawkeye has half the views of Loki because Loki the character has a huge fanbase. I expected (and am finding) Hawkeye to be quite good, I think it will be a show with a much longer tail than these others because people will discover it’s very good later on, and it seems less wrapped up in setting up some other thing, even though it obviously will.

It's Uncle Vernon from the Harry Potter films. Richard Griffiths brought back from the dead via CGI, Peter Cushing-style. Won’t that character be part of the Sony-verse if they’ve got Spiderman back? I think "that character" was under the Netflix deal, and all those characters are now owned outright by Marvel.

I’m hoping Uncle turns out to be Wilson Fisk, but it’s probably just that moustache guy with the swords. This is an MCU show so there is absolutely no chance it will be anyone cool or surprising. We've had what, three entire shows so far and the most shocking thing was that when the signposted it was Kang for the whole of Loki (and arguably before), it actually was. Everything else people were hoping for or which would have been genuinely exciting has turned out to be wishful thinking and/or coming up with a better story than the actual writers did - note I'm normally very skeptical of people claiming that but with WV and Falcon particularly some fan-theories were a hell of a lot better (and actually potentially less-high-budget) than what actually happened. Not all that trash about Mephisto, obviously.

I think we’ll still see Julia Louis Dreyfuss and Florence Pugh before the season’s end. Even its just post-credits it feels like this is a better tie in with Black Widow and Falcon than any of the metaphysical stuff.

Technically though that car chase was magnificent, because the actors clearly can’t be driving the car, so how they pulled all that shit off and made it look so convincing is, well so hopefully it’s the subject of an on-depth making-of video someday. The Shang-Chi bus fight was great, but I don’t think it involved remotely such a degree of co-ordination between what was happening in the bus compared to outsde the bus simultaneously. Not got to that episode yet. Is it something like the car chase fight in The Raid 2? Probably not, but that's a scene well worth watching how they did it anyway. Full scene (warning, quite violent): Making of the clever camera movement:
I'm off to watch Hawkeye now...

Won’t that character be part of the Sony-verse if they’ve got Spiderman back? That’s an interesting question. Fisk first appeared in Amazing Spider-Man, but Netflix were able to use him in Daredevil and I think he was in that terrible Ben Affleck Daredevil movie but played by a black actor. On film at least, he’s more associated with Daredevil, and I think he was often up against DD and The Punisher in the comics I saw. So maybe he’s not regarded as a Spider-Man villain for rights purposes in the same way Wolverine isn’t considered a Hulk villain.

There definitely seems to have been a back-and-forth at some point in history about which characters are "X-Men characters", "Fantastic Four characters", "Spider-Man characters", etc. I mean, Namor is commonly associated with the FF, but obviously predates them, and for a long time was (I believe) part of the same Universal deal that saw them hold the rights to the Hulk (who still has his own complicated rights status that apparently prevents Marvel from making a solo Hulk movie). I'd love to see a Get Back-style documentary about the legal discussion concerning whether Wanda and Pietro are Avengers or X-Men and ulltimately just coming to the answer "yes".

I hope they get Namor back and do something with him. Imagine the CGI spunkfest they could have if he tries to flood New York again

I think the issue with Hulk is deceptively simple, something like Paramount has distribution rights to any solo Hulk film and Disney are just not interested in making another movie to hand it to them. It’s really mainly about the fact that both Hulk movies have been let downs and it’s a very hard character to make a good movie with, so it’s not worth the trouble. Spider-Man is a much more fertile IP and evidently IS worth the trouble.
I’ve got 10-12 years worth of Hulk comics and never thought it would translate easily to film. They could probably pull it off, I mean the original Infinity Gauntlet comics arc would also make a terrible movie and they figured out to make it the biggest movie of all time for some time.

I like the Norton film but its not very MCU because it predates the house style settling in.
I’m not sure how you’d do it now to fit in with the rest of the series, especially since they missed down Planet Hulk solo

It was leaked a while ago that World War Hulk will go into production based on the success of She-Hulk.

It was leaked a while ago that World War Hulk will go into production based on the success of She-Hulk. That's kind of bizarre. World War Hulk is essentially the sequel to Planet Hulk. And it could not possibly even begin to make sense without Planet Hulk preceding it. And they already used most of the good bits of Planet Hulk in Thor: Ragnarok, so they can't do that. It's a really elaborate setup too. And the overwhelming majority of important characters in Planet Hulk and World War Hulk are either already dead in the MCU, don't exist in the MCU, and/or cannot exist in the MCU. Wild. So I have no idea what they will be called "World War Hulk", but it absolutely cannot be based on the comic in any meaningful way. On top of all that, it's very hard to see Ruffalo portraying that Hulk at all, like even as Banner he's a much nicer guy than comics Banner. I guess maybe it'll tie in with the multiverse stuff and we'll see an evil Hulk from another universe leading some sort of army against our Hulk and others. All that said, I am always up for more Hulk, so even if it's WWH only in name, better that than most other heroes.

As with most of the comic to film adapts, if they do it they’ll heavily water it down ala Civil War, Age of Ultron, Demon in a Bottle etc etc. It could end up being as something as simple as Hulk pissed that Banner suppressed/merged with him all that time and goes mental at the current heroes.

I mean, that's like the lead-in to Planet Hulk, I guess spoilers but isn't the essence of World War Hulk that Hulk has an army and a clear intention to take over/destroy the world ? And without that it's just any of any number of "HULK GET MAD AND SMASH!!!" stories. Not that I wouldn't watch those because honestly HULK SMASH is best use of Hulk. I guess I was just surprised they called World War Hulk particularly but they definitely seem to have. Shit maybe just because it was the most recent Hulk storyline people are actually likely to have heard of.

I’m so glad I got out of comics before they lost touch with humanity. I read Hulk when he worked as a bouncer, or was dropping in on Betty and Rick Jones’s girlfriend Marlo who were flatting together.
I read the synopses of the stuff they’ve done since Peter David left and it just sounds awful. They didn’t even let The Maestro stay dead, who was a great idea in one-off story that gets definitively killed, although I have a faint memory that Peter David might have started that, by some bullshit like even his ATOMS have a healing factor.
Main thing I I like about the movies is that they cut out the worst of the four-colour bullshit and make the dialogue vastly better.
