I thought that. It's a bit weird replacing one old racist trope with another, but hey, Marvel owns The Mandarin outright and they'd have to pay rights for the other. |

This version of the Mandarin isn't a racist caricature though, just technically based on a character who was. So I guess Marvel considers that "fixed".
Also his rings work in a totally different way, probably because audiences might have difficulty remembering all ten different things they could do. They're actually some of the weakest CGI in the movie too.
Upcoming stuff wise, Moon Knight looks weird and maybe not in a good way. She Hulk I would be sure would be a disaster but if anyone can rescue it, it's Tatiana Maslany. Miss Marvel I am fundamentally unmoved by, but hey maybe it won't suck. X-Men 97 sounds amazing, hope they don't fuck it up and that it leads to so actual decent modern X-Men stuff, not the spotty stuff Sony or Fox or whoever put out.

Were there any trailers that actually showed anything of She Hulk? I'm down for Tatiana Maslany, but it's going to be really hard to pull off. I know nothing about the Moon Knight character, so I have no investment, but it looks dumb. Ms Marvel as a character I do like, and I hope the show is great. The trailer didn't show enough of the actual character to get a feel for it though. I assume the very young character is just gonna be part of the origin story? The whole thing jumped around way too much. As a set of 'trailers', they were terrible.
PS/ Maslany seems to just miss out on loads of big roles, so I'm glad she at least got this. She was in the last 3 for Rogue One and for Terminator Genisys. Not sure if that last one was a blessing or a curse, but she'd have been a lot better in the role that Clarke was.

Like do people get so excited about the dripfeed of content that they need to know when a fucking *trailer* will come out? Are they sitting at their desktops, desperately hitting Refresh so they can get the sweet rush of being the first to see something that all their friends are going to see within an hour anyway? I've just watched the Moon Knight teaser (and it really is a tease, because you see practically nothing) but I heart Oscar Isaac and this could be really good. Some of the later comics were brutally violent. I still have a fond place in my heart for 80s Moon Knight, crappy Batman ripoff that he was. Who's doing that annoying (British?) accent in the teaser? Is it Isaac? It's fucking awful. Yeah I liked the trailer, the character and Oscar Isaac so it's one I'm looking forward too, just hoping it suffer Daredevil's failings. |

WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIVES Ironically it did cause me to watch the trailer, as I idly noted it came out at 1.30 UK time and it was 1.38 and I have literally nothing better to do so why not. The trailer doesn't really tell you anything we didn't already know though it is bizarrely wildly different in tone to the previous trailer. No Tobey or Garfield, though at least one of them is heavily implied by the dialogue. Also the CGI looks, well, kinda bad? Which is surprising as I can't imagine the budget was anything less than insane and it's coming out in December. But multiple scenes in the trailer looked not-great, with villains who looked more like computer-game characters than, I dunno, full-price CGI (Electro looks particularly bad, and somehow Doc Ock's claws look cheap). |

I watched it on my lunch break. It looked fine, with nostalgia feels from the Raimi Spidermans.
This might be a steamy hot take, but I am sure the movie will be fine too.

I watched waaaay too many reaction videos over the pandemic. There's something appealingly reassuring about them, but then I started to realize that the studios seem to be designing their movies to appeal to them, and it's making the movies worse. I'm of the opinion that half of season 2 of The Mandalorian was designed with reaction videos in mind. The half that sucked. I *really* wish I hadn't watched the previous Spiderman trailer, as it spoiled way too much (and looked rubbish), so I'll skip this one for now. |

On a recent playthrough of the spider-men games, I became increasingly annoyed that spider-man is pretty much always the cause of the trouble he is in. Then this trailer came out.

They know their audience, it's people looking for affirmation that the thing they like is pretty cool and want to share in the excitement with someone so they seek these reaction videos out. It's like having a fake friend. Looked like the Lizard is in this as well? |
