Seeing Eternals tonight. Looking forward to seeing it, though not expecting it to be a favourite.

Most of the rest of their announced upcoming films should be fairly safe. I’m not sure there’s any sign of an eternal sequel for years if it all.

I'm kinda worried it'll tank and that'll push marvel back to concentrating on their core MCU movie style and heroes. Im not sure why thats a bad thing. There has clearly been a massive dip in quality since they moved to the content farm model to prop up Disney+. One "rotten" film in 23(?) isn't going to change a damn thing, even if it performs badly at the box office. Besides which, from the upcoming films it looks like its business as usual. Disney+ wise they'll continue to churn. Hopefully get something as good as WandaVision again in the future. Morbius trailer is interesting as its got things from all of the Sony Spider-verse films in there. I think it looks fun. Edit: What not a reviewer said.

I think Wandavision and Falcon have been the best two post-Endgame releases so far (along with the Doc Strange What If)

I would be *very* surprised if Eternals was anywhere near as bad as that. I think, to be fair, I'm now past saturation point, same with star wars, so my tolerance level is pretty low. All of the recent announcements were met with a shrug and it would take something pretty special to spark my interest.

I've actually enjoyed the TV stuff more than I have the films which I can take or leave really.

I'm not sure how much I liked Wandavision. It was fine, and the framing gimmick was unique, certainly by MCU standards but I didn't find it as amazing as some folks.
Ultimately I liked the concept more than I actually enjoyed watching it - can't say I found the retro-comedy pastiches particularly funny, as such.

I think I've probably said this somewhere else (probably earlier in this thread!) but I don't think there has been a drop in quality, it's just that we've had AGES since Endgame and there's nothing really huge looming on the horizon in the way we were all looking forward to Infinity War Parts I & II for years. So everything is seeming a bit fiddly and smaller-scale
Eternals is the third film this year, and so far we've had Black Widow (okay, terrible ending) and Shang-Chi (excellent, terrible ending). I don't think any of this is enough to view as a trend. Also most of the TV shows have been great.
As far as I'm concerned we're back in Iron Man/Incredible Hulk times, where we don't really know what's going on, where it's all heading, and so far we've not had a masterpiece of a film to hang everything on (although I'd genuinely rank Shang-Chi up there with the first Iron Man).

Fair enough that their core movies and heroes were often the best, but they've exhausted a lot of those, and even if they haven't, they can't just keep pumping out the same thing forever without people getting bored. As such, I hope they keep experimenting with things a bit different as well.
Eternals is a weird choice, because they're essentially doing the Justice League mistake of introducing a bunch of characters all at once... except this time it's even more characters, and it's ones that no-one has heard of. Kinda hard to get people excited about that. Plus it seems so totally disconnected from the other MCU movies that there's not even the usual 'well I'd better watch it anyway' vibe.
Personally, I've been hot and cold on the Disney+ marvel tv shows. Wandavision sounded like a great idea in theory, but the first half was awful, dull and a real slog to get through. It did improve at the end though. Falcon & Winter Soldier did the opposite and started well, and then just collapsed into a total mess. As I understand it, Covid might have played a part in that and they had to change a bunch of stuff. But you could tell. By that point I'd lost interest. Everyone says Loki is good, but I really can't be bothered.
I did try episode one of What if? as I thought it might be something fresh, and as I loved Agent Carter. But it was pretty dull.
I am down for the Hawkeye series at Xmas though. That looks like fun.

Loki is the worst of the three by quite a distance for me.
I really liked Wandavision and Falcon. I think that Bourne style thing works really well for none powered heroes.
Hawkeye looks good too.

As someone who didn't really like the Winter Soldier film that much I was pleasantly surprised by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. The characters worked well together and the storyline was fitting. It was probably the best of the D+ series for me and I expected it to be the worst.
I did watch one episode of MODOK but not sure I will bother with any more of them.

I'm just happy they are pumping money into it and expanding the story, some will hit and miss.

I'm a fan of the Eternals trailer where it reveals the big robot in the sky with a big PWARP sound: creepy.

My biggest issue with the Disney+ shows is that while they're (mostly) good, they're not really re-watchable compared to the MCU stuff. I have zero urge to binge-watch any of them, especially as ones like WandaVision were hinged on mystery and speculation for their main pull.
Maybe What If, but even then it's kind of an eh.

I still rate Winter Soldier as my favourite of all the MCU films, but thought that TV series F&WS was the worst of the shows so far released on Disney+. I am not including MODOK, as it isn’t part of the MCU. Looking forward to Hawkeye, even if it looks to be more of a comedy than a spy/espionage story. I think that was why I found Black Widow to not live up to its potential. It went for comedy vibes over the noirish tone that would have suited it better, possibly.
Going back to the Morbius/Jared Leto thing discussed earlier, is it a Sony film or part of the MCU, like Spider-Man? If it exists outside of the MCU, then can we skip the alleged kiddy fiddler spectacular?

Everything's pretty much converging and it's widely assumed that the multiverse stuff from Spidey3 and DS2 will render questions like this fairly moot. Just from the trailer alone it has links to the Sony Spiderman stuff (Venom reference, Keaton probably playing Vulture again) but it also has links to other stuff as well (the OzCorp logo in the trailer is from Peter Garfield's TASM2, the Spidey graffiti on the wall is a shot of the Raimi suit from the video game) so it's just a confusing mess really.

I like the wider Marvel universe Celestials, Eternals, Galactus etc. There's some crazy storylines.
However the trailers have made this film look dull as dishwasher with boring CGI battles, generic monsters and flat humour. There's no connection to any of the characters or story. It's looks like an utterly generic superhero flick with none of the Marvel quality.

There was all this wild speculation and fantastic theories and then the realisation that they probably aren't ever going to do anything that interesting.

The Sony movies will stay separate from the MCU. They’ll join very briefly via the multiverse as different realities and then be gone again. No Way Home is going to ditch Parker from the MCU indefinitely, so none of the baggage from the Sony stuff will stick. Certainly none of the things that happen in the Sony films will influence the MCU outside of their guest appearances, so they’ll all be safe to skip.

Back from Eternals.
It starts with a short text crawl, which immediately felt unique and out of place (for the MCU). The first 40 minutes is a bit of a slog, and is the bit that feels less MCU, but once it gets going it’s alright. It’s definitely a couple of films in one and doesn’t feel like it’s quite enough of either to work properly. The grand spectacle Chloe Zhao stuff feels a bit like ‘Villeneuve-lite does Justice League in the MCU”, and unsurprisingly it’s a better Justice League movie than Justice League. The typical Marvel stuff feels a bit lower budget than the good Marvel movies, including the casting. It also feels quite separate from the rest of the MCU, though the stuff here will appear in others in future. There’s a lot to cover in one film so a lot of the important stuff, like the character building and lore bits, feel quite rushed, with more time allocated to punching CGI things and what feels like quite a lot of nothing. It might have worked better as two movies rather than squeezing it all in here but that would have presented it’s own challenges. They certainly won’t be a one and done though.
I thought it was ok, the gf liked it and my mate didn’t.

Just back myself.
I liked it. Not the best and to an extent agree with the majority of the above critique.
I found it refreshing to have an all new set of character to follow in the mcu. Nowhere near the fun of guardians, but having a new group kind of refresh as guardians was. By the end, a good comaderie was formed and laughter was had from their joking/mocking each other.
If you enjoy the mcu and want more threads to the overarching story then go watch with little expectation and I'd be surprised if you actively disliked what you saw.

Just catching up on the conversation in here.
For me, What of is the best thing d+ have done with marvel. Love the way it builds up. So much more than I expected from it.
Falcon and Wintet soldier was OK, but massively effected by changes to plot in light of the pandemic. Lots of story plot points delivered by offscreen voices being the key giveaway.
Wandavision was fantastic, but the hype for something more was part of that. Still holds up imo though.
Looking was also a good watch. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all ties into together. The main fun gas always been the supposing and guessing of where it is going next, and we have that in spades right now so I'm a happy bunny.
Eternals ending offers up some (as someone who doesn't look way into all the future plans religiously) some cool prospects, as did shang chi.
Personally I thought both would be shown to be linked somehow, but still seem fairly separate. Not sure whether spider or Dr strange will link them more.
Certainly by thor 4 and guardians 3 I expect to see much more about where phase 4 is going.

Their TV shows have been a bit better than previous superhero tv stuff but they can do better if they take a little bit more of a risk with them.
The films will get a bit more interesting again when more of the better known characters and franchises start showing again. For me Captain America and Iron Man were the two best sets of films/characters (excluding IM2) so losing them is a problem but I’m sure they’ll effectively replace them with someone else soon, whether it’s from fantastic four or something else.
A couple of charismatic actors in good films and my interest will be back.
