It will be more polished than it is now!

It's almost certainly not going to be a polished game. itโs Ukrainian, not Polish(ed)!

Looks like you went all in! Mine is preparing for shipping still but is "only" the adventurer's pledge. I'm pretty excited about it but sort of regretting not getting the terrain pack.
Anyway, enjoy, and let us know how it is!

Looks like EU pledgers might need to wait a few more weeks. The Munkebo Maersk container ship is currently somewhere off Morocco and is expected to dock and offload at Gdansk on October 11th.

Please excuse the nooby question. Looking at videos, this looks somewhere between a modern Fallout game and the Metro games - how wide of the mark is that?

Yeah that's not far off, less questy than fallout. The atmosphere and difficultly really made them stand out, getting into a gunfight had stakes, getting hit by a bullet often meant death. Edit: Cant speak to Stalker 2, I'm avoiding all the vids etc and just buying it as it's probably my favourite series of all time

I'm not sure how much the 2 in the name is changing things, but sort of. It is closer to a Metro game in structure and as it is less of an RPG, but it is an openish world (original split its world into large maps, but I'm sure the new one will be open world). Far Cry might actually be a closer comparison, although setting is very like Metro and obviously much bleaker and a more hostile world. It is a fairly linear story though and you upgrade your character through the equipment you use rather than through character development (don't know if the sequel will change that).
The original was pretty revolutionary at the time, although went through development hell and was kind of janky when it came out. It very much sold itself as having a living world, with wildlife that would go about its own business without your interaction.

I'd say Stalker is a bit more brutal than the Metro series in terms of gameplay. Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat were somewhat unforgiving gameplay wise. I don't think I've pressed F5 so much in a game.

Please excuse the nooby question. Looking at videos, this looks somewhere between a modern Fallout game and the Metro games - how wide of the mark is that? pretty good summation. I've currently got an install stalker anomaly custom on the go (never played the original stalker games) but I reckon 2 will be similar. Very fallout in that you're out and about in the wilds with small dips back to more urbanised areas (albeit derelict and fucked by the ravages of time and mother nature) with quests to go and do stuff. Emphasis on using stuff you find and you're upgrading via knowledge and new kits/consumables/artifacts you acquire. It's also faction based so you'll definitely be on the wrong side of someone at all times. I'm looking forward to it more so for the modern engine uplift. Some of the mods are spectacular but they're still tacking bits onto that old engine (so again, very much fallout ;-P)

Does it play like a decent shooter (unlike fallout).

It's a much better shooter than Fallout, although also one that won't appeal to everyone. As Jambo says, much more brutal game, where weapons have a really high lethality. The jank and age also means it can be a bit clunky to play.
I would expect the sequel to feel more like a modern shooter.

Depends on what you mean by decent. The first ones are pretty jank and the guns aren't very reliable in terms of accuracy (and they wear/break). Play it for the atmosphere really

Stalker was much much much much better than Metro and Fallout. Comparing with Metro feels fair, but Stalker was nothing like FO imo.
The gunplay and atmosphere are what elevated Stalker into god tier territory for me.
The open world was incredible for the time. I can't really think of many other games doing that then. That part of Stalker 2 might feel diminished by modern standards, but I'm hoping they retain the oppressive, desperate atmosphere and meaty action.

Wouldn't have said the gunplay was that great tbh. It existed and was just about serviceable but for its time I played games which had gunplay and movement that was light years ahead of it. Great game despite the very thick layer of jank and uncompromising gameplay that meant you had to bend to its will rather than it trying to accommodate you in any meaningful way. Atmosphere though 10/10.

Yeah, was a bit of rushed post โ the guns felt great to me. Meaty. And I enjoyed testing out new ones, repairing old good ones, etc. The AI could be really stupid at times, with 3 guys getting stuck on the corner of a building or something.
When it worked though, it was great โ I remember the first time I had a fight in some 2 metre high reed beds and the bullets were fizzing at me through them. I could just make out the odd flash of a gun barrel here and there and occasionally a mask peaking through a gap, which I'd scope and attempt a headshot.
And those underground labs... dayum.
Good times.

I'm hoping it's at least half decent in number 2 as it really appeals.
Don't mind a bit of jank but not when it comes to the basic feel.

Metro was a spiritual successor(ish) to Stalker made by much of the same team. But theyโre very different games, really. Metro is tighter but linear, though also has less rough edges than the Stalker series (which gives you far more freedom to meander around)

Atmosphere though 10/10. Yeah, the RPG-esque progression leads to a lot of the earlier guns being pretty inaccurate, there is this reactive damage reduction when the AI soldiers are staggered, accuracy also comes down to posture and aiming and so on and so forth. It's a strange combination of seeming like a straightforward shooter on the surface, but having all of these things going on with the aiming and damage mechanics.

It was a glorious, janky and very PC only game of the time that made squeal like a pig more than a few times.
Been an age since I played but no 2 trips across the map felt the same, the games random bullshit generator was fantastic and the power curve was spot on as it melded with personal skill and knowledge of the zone.
Even just 'The Zone' itself, the roadside picnic, is such a fucking cool a concept it's ridiculous.
It was really far ahead of its time. Just remembered I recorded this, still in the top 5 videogame thunderstorms of all time.
The sound design ๐ค

Damn, I donโt remember the first one looking that good, although loved it. How do the Xbox versions hold up (apologies if already discussed to death).

Lighting looks a bit weird in that vid. Modded?
I played a bit of Prypriat on Series X and it was fine. Didn't experience any crashes or bugs from what I remember
I recall modding the first game quite a bit (darker nights was definitely one). Mods weren't available on Series X when I played it (near release) but there was talk of enhancements/mod support down the line
The weather effects are great through. Love the emissions

From what I remember CoP had some crashing issues with... something in the graphics settings. Possibly one of the DirectX options.
People either like SoC or CoP the most usually. And everbyody and their mother seems to agree that Clear Sky is the black sheep of the family. Personally I'd say that SoC comes out ahead, not least since story, atmosphere and A-Life design are probably the best.

Aww yiss Do you just sit and play these on your own? What's the appeal? How often do you replay them?
Not disapproving; genuinely curious as I don't really get table top games (not played). Same with super heroes/comics- intrigued by why people love them so much as they don't appeal to me at all but don't want to ask in one of the threads in case it comes across as 'I think the thing you all love is shit'

Also you must have a whole room for just your board games that looks like a hoarders den

Fair question. Most of my games are solo/co-op appropriate in some way and yes, I often sit and play them on my own if no-one else is around, and the vast majority have high replay value. The appeal (presuming you mean vs playing a videogame) is mostly the tactile nature and the physicality of components, but there's an element of hobbyism and collecting there too.
And yes I have a dedicated game room.
