Help me out here please, old-ish FPS game, definitely post Half-Life 1, but not by much.
I actually could have sworn it used the Source engine and I'd find it easily, but it's not listed anywhere. Bit cartoonish, not too much, think it took place on another planet, sci-fi/steampunk-ish, I remember deserts (but whenever I try to remember more I see pictures of Borderlands instead). There was a dinosaur or something at some point, and possibly a sidekick (a mechanic? Or was that the main character?)

"Powered by Half-Life engine" - Hah, I knew it. It's not even on Steam! Started its life as a total conversion mod.

Oh yeah, that game was great. I remember you could customise your weapons to change the type of ammo they would shoot or fire rate and things like that. Have no memory of the dinosaurs though.
I'm sure a friend bought it for me for one of my birthdays, so must have it kicking around somewhere.

Still have this game. Loved how they somehow managed to convince Valve to let them use the Half-Life style cover. Pretty sure it was the first officially licensed game on the GoldSrc engine. Not that there were many.
Game itself wasn't that great tho. I seem to remember the level design was pretty bland, and the whole custom ammo thing just meant that weapon variation wasn't all that. Think it was also quite short. And yeah, it had alien dinosaurs.
I guess as a TC it was pretty impressive, but not sure about selling it at retail.

IIRC PC Gamer loved it. I always wanted to play it but I think it needed slightly better specs than HL due to improvements in lighting?

Pretty sure there is an unofficial Steam installer now, to make it compatible with modern systems too, but you still need the disc.
Looks like Valve was involved in the development too, weird that it was never released digitali. Maybe they can't find the other devs anymore.

I remember the box from stores, and for some reason I have a very clear memory of that bit from the trailer where the brontosaurus bends down with its head sideways to try and eat you. But I don't know why as I never played it.
Also, star wars ripped off the design of their space ship at 1:18 for episode 2!!

I was pretty hyped for it back then. I think I still have the CD somewhere.
I recently gave it another try with this version:
Basically, just install it as a mod for Half Life.
Edit: I don't think you actually need the CD. At least I don't remember using it.

Oh, that's very convenient. When I replayed it many years ago, there was only a patch to convert the disc install to Steam. Might actually try and replay it someday. I wasn't a big fan, but I didn't hate it either, and it's been so long anyway. On a side note, I'm also trying to recall the name of a game. All I remember is a trailer from a demo disc, with a CGI render of some pharaoh statues. Trailer was very green and brown iirc, like it was underground. For some reason I associate it with Archimedean Dynasty (which is very definitely not the game I'm thinking of), so I imagine it must have been from around that time?

The only thing that I can think of that comes anywhere close is Montezuma's Return (1997). Or perhaps that FPS that got a re-release recently...
Powerslave Exhumed.
