I'm keen to know if the gear menus are as much of a confusing mess as last time.

What's the enemy variety like? More or less the same as the first one so far, but I am only a few hours in and it's barely taken the training wheels off me yet. Combat feels a little bit more complex and unforgiving than the first one though.

I may have to start being kinder to DPD. Just arrived.
Let’s get this baby installed so I can jump on after work.

Each of the 9 realms has its own unique enemy types and mini bosses apparently.

My copy's not due to show up until sometime between 14:30 and 17:30, according to Amazon; still, that should give me plenty of time in which to get the game installed and ready to play this evening.
For my fellow disc-buying dinosaurs, how long did it take to get everything up and running, including the day one patch?

Should be pretty quick if you've got decent internet, presuming this only needs to copy a bit from disc before it's ready to play. So either bung in the disc and go make a cuppa, of bung in the disc and read war and peace.

Mine is due to arrive later on but I have a dilema..
I'm probably half way through the 1st one (maybe not even that far, killed the 2 brothers and little one knows his secret). Do I just abandon and watch the recap and start Ragnorok tonight. Or carry on and start once done.. but the FOMO will kick in .
Im not bothered about trophies or anything so would I be missing anything amazing if I just bailed??

Yes, I think you'd be missing a pretty great game (story beats too, which I know you can catch up on). I really think you should complete the first one before you play this.
God of War was one of those games where I went insane, hunting every last trophy. I don't regret it.

Given how similar the two games are then ignoring half of the first to start this one would be a bit odd.

I agree - finish the first game. It's well worth doing so, given how far you've come already.

Just don't want to get bored of Ragnorok if its more of the same and not having a break between the 2 games.. that is definitely what happened with horizon, after a few hours of forbidder west I really could not be bothered.
There is a recap in the main menu apparently so that could fill in the gaps

Edit: in response to Reviewer.
Right. Everything I've heard suggests it's more of the same - with tweaks e.g. more mini-bosses, greater enemy variety etc. For me, that's great - though I'm struggling with the price tbh, and I know it won't become cheaper any time soon.

Do you have anything else you could play between the two, as a palate cleanser of sorts?

I'm tempted to just grab it at that Curry's price now. Stuff like HFW is still at the £45+ mark, so doubt I'll be saving a huge amount of money if I wait to buy it next month.
Or I could just stick it on my Christmas list which is completely empty... Decisions decisions.

Afternoon Ratfans Being as there is no point being coy...for you FGers that do not want to pay top dollar, I will very likely have this PS5 version played (most importantly enjoyed) and finished/finished with, by end of the month. It will then appear on our swappsies thread, probably for sale at £50 though...can you wait a little over 3 weeks ? Just a thought.

Can someone tell me what button I am supposed to press when the prompt shows up when an enemy is disabled and looks like it's some sort of crown thingy? Been pressing every combination and it does nothing and feeling a bit sheepish.

I really don't see the point in not playing it only to move on the sequel which carries on directly from the end of the first. You would be doing it just for the sake of it.

Probably not relevant given the timescales, but the post-story content in the original was fucking excellent too. There's a rogue-like mode in it an all sorts. I probably played the game longer post-credits than before, looking back.

I never have that much desire to carry on with anything after that long, far too much other stuff to play.
I did give up on GOW early on my first attempt with it years ago with all the talky walky bits.. the talky bits are what puts me off most games. I only started it again as I bounced off Plague tale and thought Id try it again as I know id end up buying ragnorok even if i thought i might bounce on that too. Like I said, FOMO, i buy most stuff to see if I agree with the hype
And dont get me started on Last of us.... I have attempted to get the LOU part 1 3 times and gave up. Have LOU2 in wrap still that I bought thinking Id play it one day

After the intro and the fight against _him_ I thought it was pretty flat for a while. It took a couple of attempts before I pushed past that and the game really started to wow me again, couldn't put it down after that

Hm, I’ve just tried high framerate mode (in combination with high performance mode), but it makes the picture quite a bit brighter. Not entirely convinced. Could this be a TV thing rather than something with the game?

That was where the gameplay, story and characters all started to become something really special. I bounced hard enough off TLOU:1 on release to send it straight to eBay, and only got through it earlier this year. I really don't get the hype...

Could this be a TV thing rather than something with the game? Yeah. 120hz mode may have its own picture settings. There was something about some TV's having issues with 120hz as well doing the rounds when Ratchet and Clank was out.
