I don't think I've ever got stunlocked. Have you tried blocking? *runs* There's a particular berserker fight with multiple enemies where it happens a lot, the main enemy if it lands a hit in its combo prevents you from dodging/blocking out of the rest of it, and there's 2 other enemies who will also pile in with hits while it's happening. It basically just turns off your ability to control the game while you watch Kratos die.

I was most kidding, but... Yeah, I get it - there's numerous enemies with (yellow circle) attacks that leave you staggered for a bit or stunned for a bit longer. I've just been avoiding them or parrying them when I can.
And I'm a complete amateur at this sort of thing. I haven't even played Elden Ring, nevermind beaten it.

Just made my way to that famous Norse city, well outskirts at least. Blimey it’s a bit pretty isn’t it?
First time I’ve been tempted to move the ps5 downstairs to play it on the 4K tv.

Yeah, it's a gorgeous game and really deserves to be seen in all its glory. Cracking on with the story (chapter 10) myself after cleaning out all of the available favours, apart from one in Alfheim. Freyr's gift or whatever it was. I'm completely stumped by the crystal puzzle to get into it, so clearly missing something obvious that'll make me feel like an idiot later I've been good and skipped walkthroughs so far without too much of a challenge (apart from a couple of Nornir chests that I left for later), but might have to have a look at one for that.

I spent a couple of hours last night mopping up some optional content before I pass the point of no return, and I found the Raven Keeper boss to be pretty crappy, in all honesty. Yes, it's a tough fight, but not in a good way - she's just a beefed-up Seidr Witch, of the kind you've fought frequently throughout GoW 2018 and Ragnarok, with cheap difficulty added via the arrival of extra enemies for every 25% of her health bar that you deplete. Not impressed! Overall, though, I've still really enjoyed the vast majority of my time with the game. I'm torn between 8.5 and 9 right now, and whichever score it gets will depend upon how well (or otherwise!) it sticks the landing. I'm planning to wrap it up tonight and get stuck into The Binding of Isaac from tomorrow onwards.

I really can't exaggerate how terrible almost all of these berserker fights are. Consistently among the worst designed boss encounters I've ever seen.
It's bad enough that so many of them are only capable of generating a challenge through camera fuckery, they all also have these bullshit ten second long windows where they're programmed to take 0 damage because they dodge away when you do attack inputs and even if your attacks clearly hit them they don't care.
Genuinely abysmal.

I don't know, you have done quite a good job of it.

Honestly I haven't found the Beserker fights that bad at all bar one, think I've done about 4 or 5 of them currently. I mean they're just like the Valkyrie fights, hard fights and I haven't found them to be cheap. I dunno, people see things differently.

I don’t think they are *too* bad. Only two (so far) gave me a problem. The wanker who summons other wankers which makes keeping track of projectiles a massive pain in the arse and the hammer guy because if you mistime a parry, you’re stunlocked into eating another three hits.
Top tip, though: the armour set you get from the girl dwarf turns barehands into the strongest weapon in the game (as far as I can see). The chest armour procs poison on hit and the other two bits amplify poison damage. It rocks the shit out of anything with a name and big health bar, including the berserkers. Melts health and gains stun faster than anything.
I’ve barely used weapons in boss battles so far, unless they have an elemental resistance/weakness.

I stayed with the same armor set the whole way through (the dark something set), maybe I overleveled it but all other armors that came in would only meet the stats after I’d spunked a bunch of the super limited resources on them. Also I maintain that the charged spear throw is ridiculously overpowered in one on one fights. It stunlocks anything and can be spammed continually.

Yeah, I've been using that poison armour set since I got it. Took bloody ages to start getting mats to upgrade it though, so it was stuck on level 5 or 6 for ages, which probably didn't help the difficulty spikes. Got it maxed out now and I've done all but the last berserker and have most areas at 80%ish completion.
Just about to crack on with the last bit of story after getting massively sidetracked (as in almost 10 hours) by one of the areas opening up.

I think I’m exactly as far as you if that is the entirely optional but fucking massive area of vanaheim.

Heh. I did the exact same thing! Thought I was cruising towards the end, then spent all of last weekend in said optional area.

In terms of pacing, it’s crazy they leave it so late to unlock

I was amazed when I got there and I kept finding side quests everywhere. It was pretty great tbh.

Yeah, that's the one. I remember being wowed by one of the optional areas in the last game where you go to free one of the dragons. That's probably not even an eighth of the size of this place. So funny just constantly wandering into new areas and thinking this must be the last one, surely...

Finished the main plot tonight, actually took me quite a while but absolutely loved this, it really ramped up as it got further and further to the end. I won't lie I even got a bit teary eyed. I still wonder why Microsoft can't produce this quality level with their games.

I'm not really as almost nobody can. Sony have a couple of wonderful studios for making story based games.

Just finished it too and absolutely loved the ending and everything leading up to it. The last few chapters really kicked it up a notch.
Then I made the mistake of going after the last two berserkers before bed. Fucking hell the very last one is a bit of a step up!

Well, finished last night too. Did it on one difficulty above the middle one.
Good points: - Story was better than the last IMO, first got the characters right but the overarching narrative didn't grab me. This did the characters as well as the last but also got a much better narrative out of them too. - The last couple of hours were very good, and delivered a reasonable amount of spectacle that a lot of the game was missing. - When the combat works well it still works very well. - Better enemy variety than the first game. - Muspelheim seemed a bit less annoying this time around? One caveat aside. - Visually it looks great, of course. - Good accessibility options, many of which turn into "make the game better", such as getting rid of all the button mashing crap etc. - The big optional area toward the end is probably the best bit of the game.
Bad points: - Pacing in the first half is abysmal, it's fine for the open bits but it refuses to get out of second gear for the main missions and spends far too much time walking and puzzling. Dearth of spectacle until at least half way through. - Traversal speed is irritatingly slow. - The entire Ironwood section with Atreus was the absolute pits. - Combat just cannot deal with encounters consisting of large numbers of enemies very well and descends less into fighting things and more just looking at arrows on the edge of the screen. An option for a higher FoV would massively improve things. Just zoom it back in for the cutscenes, put a warning in the menu saying it may look weird at times, job done. - Too many boss fights rely on large invulnerability windows for enemies where they just dance away etc. - Muspelheim making you redo challenges like 4 times each minimum. - The big optional area toward the end is probably the best bit of the game.
I'd give it an 8. Like the last one.

Yeah, the Muspelheim challenges took the piss a bit. You soon got a feel for which ones you could complete the quickest and always did those, but even then it felt utterly unnecessary. They should've just unlocked the final challenges without that pitiful little puzzle in front of them. I just dropped it down to the easiest difficulty to get through them all asap.
@frog - yeah, I'd heard that. I rage quit the first game after finishing it due to the normal Valkyries, never mind the last one! Feels like a shame to give up on it now though as the platinum is well within reach if I can get past this bastard.

Yeah, the one that made me say 'fuck this' was the 'throw an ever increasing amount of orbs into the void' one and I only failed it once. The task may as well have been 'battle the camera and controls for 10 minutes'.

That was actually the one I did repeatedly when I was doing the combinations for the central thing as it felt like it went by quicker than the other two.
Still silly as hell though, just unlock all the final challenges once you beat all 9 other ones FFS!

I finished it with the 'proper' ending yesterday. I have mixed feelings about it but I powered through 40+ hours fairly quickly, so it was doing something right. I think I did most of the major side content bar 'collect this/destroy that'. It was far, far, far too long, though.

Post by dfunked on Dec 8, 2022 9:46:57 GMT
I've mopped up all of the side content apart from the final berserker and another hidden boss. Tried a build I saw on YouTube which absolutely melted everything else, but still managed to get my shit totally pushed in by the berserker.
So I'm taking a short break/rage quit with 2 trophies still left to go.

I still haven't finished it, but I am clearing up everything.
I did the Musphelheim challenges last night and my Garmin asked me if I was ok. Apparently, my stress levels were very high. Bloody flawless test. 😁

Its a shame they didnt unfreeze mazeheim. That was my favourite bit of side content in the other one. Still, given what they did to the lavaheim trials, it would have been worse somehow.
