Has anyone picked this up? I can't get my hands on it until Christmas, but it looks so good. I thought Kingdom Battle was fantastic. Looked great. Played great. Just the right level of challenge and variety. I hear this is the better game. Even if the visuals have seen a technical downgrade.

It's on the list. Will be getting it once I'm done with Gotham Knights. Loved Kingdom Battle.

I've got it, but gutted there is no co-op as I played the first one with the Mrs. Will just have to pass the pad I guess.

I forgot about the co-op mode in that game! Good times. I guess it does equate to passing the pad, but those missions were well designed. A shame the sequel doesn't have it, but it will still make for a decent experience, I'm sure.

Played a bit more of it tonight but still not very far in. There are some significant changes to movement in the game but it's still the excellent turn based game that the first one was. I think it may actually be better for the changes but I'm not willing to fully commit to that statement just yet as I need more time with it.

I've finally got this and it plays very nicely. The free movement feels very nice and along with the team jump makes everything feel very fluid.
I've enjoyed playing Mutant Year Zero in the interim, but this is already a more satisfying game to play.
I might have to increase the difficulty, however.

The difficulty will increase itself a bit once you leave world 1.

The difficulty will increase itself a bit once you leave world 1. Ah. Cheers for the heads up! I'm nearly done with World 1 already, I think. Could have played all day if I wasn't responsible for all the cooking today!

I think the world battles stay pretty easy but the event ones get a bit harder. Not sure how much harder as I'm not too much further than you so you may find you want to knock it up one anyway. Would definitely wit for a bit of world 2 and see how it is though.

@frog What team are you playing with? I haven't mixed things up yet, but get the feeling I shouldn't necessarily be using both Edge and Mario. I might swap in Luigi for one of them. Or better yet, swap them both out for Luigi and Rabbid Mario. They were my staples in the last game.

I've been swapping quite a bit to be honest, in the last one I always had Luigi in the team but this time around I've been using everyone. Both the peaches are really quite good as well.

Grabbed this for my 8 year old for Xmas so I’ll have a blast of this myself at some point My 8 year old was angling for it for xmas, but didn't get it. Yet. They probably will at some point. They haven't done a strategy game before (unless throwing random mobs at each other in Totally Accurate Battle Simulator counts) so it'll be interesting to see how they deal with a game that isn't direct control action.

Would grab them the first one as you can play it co-op with them. It's also a bit more basic in terms of strategy but still an excellent game.

They actually wanted the first one (based purely on the cover art i think ) but it was harder to get hold of, so I edited their xmas list to the second one. shhh. The second one doesn't have local co-op?

Not yet, it may be added later I think they have said. You can pass the joycons for different characters but it's not really the best solution.

I know the characters all had their differences in the first game, but it seems like they've gone further with it this time around. Ever since a particular side mission I have been rotated Rabbid Mario and Peach into my team. Its a tricky combination, but they are both amazing for shorter battles.
Combined with Luigi, it means I don't have a healer in my team, but Peach's shield is amazing when making a push. Also, I have 2 dashes for Rabbid Mario and the electric spark, which means he's becoming a bit of a monster for attack damage. With Luigi, I can just keep him in defense, using his stealy stare to mop up anyone who gets launched into the air.
Even better, I didn't know Luigi could dash somebody and trigger their own stealy stare in a single move. I can't remember if this was possible in the original, but I can play him quite offensively this time around.
Man I love this game.

I dropped this after world 2, found it really dull unlike the first.
Think it's the battles dragging on when theres a lot of enemies, and the sparks kinda robbing characters of some of their individuality.

A shame to hear. I can definitely see why folk would prefer the first game. Strategy and level design just feels different. It's too early for me to weigh them up though. The original is probably in my top 5 Switch games and I enjoyed it enough to dig into the genre generally.
At the moment though I'm very much obsessed. I do like the more free form movement. I have nothing against the grid-based movement of the original and other Xcom-like games, but with a bit of refinement they could ditch the grid based combat too and create something rather unique.

Also got this for Chrimbo (entirely for me, no children to pretend to get it for). Only really spent time with it this evening and have reached up to the unlocking Edge. Have been enjoying it so far, although there are definitely changes from the first game that I think I may end up not liking so much.
The design of the levels seems quite a bit less linear, with them taking a more 3D Mario approach. That should be fine, as long as the areas remain interesting to explore and there is plenty of things to uncover. It does also mean that battles are now on a separate map. Integrating the battles with the levels in the first game allowed everything to flow together nicely and it is shame that the battles now feel quite separate from the exploring.
Seems to be no weapon upgrades now, just skins. So far, the only character progression is the skill tree. I guess the weapon upgrades did mean you often ended up favouring certain characters because you had managed to upgrade them more, but this does feel like a step back for character customisation. Sparks are an interesting addition, but you can just switch them around as you please. I can see myself having my favourite sparks that I just put on whichever characters I happen to be using. Tying the sparks to certain characters or maybe some kind of option to bond a spark to a character to make them more powerful or unlock higher levels would have been interesting.
I do love the move away from grid based movement and being able to freely move a character within their area as I please is lovely. Doesn't stop me making a stupid action that I wish I could undo though. Still a game with a lot of character to it and really fun. Mario with a gun is still odd, but it some how works.

I really enjoy the missions in which you're forced to use a particular set of characters. At the very least it stops you from getting too comfortable with your actions, but at times it feels like solving a fresh puzzle. I'd love for them to push this much more in future games. Maybe they split up and visit different areas for their own chapters.
Overall, I'm still really enjoying this, but I am beginning to notice that even some of the bigger battles aren't as intricately designed as they were in the previous game. Still, the core mechanics are great and sometimes I want to try and perfect a run through a given stage.

Something about the battle design and arena design just seems a bit off to me in this one. The overworld design is cool but I think something is lost having all the stages be random floating stuff instead of part of the world, they just seem to feel a bit thrown together and less carefully orchestrated than the predecessor. Less puzzle-boxy.

It's certainly a more 'streamlined' design. Allows for more asset re-use. Means levels aren't as large as they once were, etc...
I don't really mind it, but I do feel that perhaps the stages aren't quite as well designed this time around. Its still fun, but the stages in the previous game got you doing some pretty amazing and unique things.
Hopefully the DLC brings some of that back.

Sorry to keep on gushing about this game, but I'm obsessed with it now. I'm currently midway through the 3rd world and I've swapped up my team again.
I wont spoil anything, but for the first time ever I don't have a healer, which I would never have done in the previous game. Instead I'm focusing on disabling or weakening the enemies and playing chaotically(sp?).
I have Rabbid Luigi set up with invisibility, which combined with his 3 dashes and a weapon that can hit multiple enemies at once, is incredible. I've also got Edge, who has 4 dashes, set up with vamp, so she can jump right into the thick of it and heal her way out of trouble. Its something I used to do with Rabbid Mario, but she is even more effective due to her range.
I am torn between turning up the difficulty or saving that for a second playthrough, because I am having a blast experimenting with all the characters. They did a decent job in the first game, but this time around each character is genuinely unique. I can see myself replaying this game a few times over.
Also, I retract my comment about the stage design. It's getting better as the game goes on. More variety and some unique moments I also will not spoil. The first 'boss' battle was great fun.

Grant Kirkhope has apparently tweeted that his stint at writing Mario music has come to an end after 8 years. It could be a decision he’s personally taken to move away from Mario Rabbids, but it’s more likely that the series is being wrapped up.
A damn shame if it’s the latter. I absolutely adore both games and would have loved a third and final game. It’s also the first game since either Rayman Legends or Splinter Cell Blackout I remember being great.
Also, the music is fantastic, though you have to give credit to the other two composers; Gareth Coker (Ori and the Blind Forest) and Yoko Shimomura (Xenoblade and Kingdom Hearts). It’s genuinely an awesome soundtrack.

I need to get back on with the second one. The lack of co-op made it a bit more awkward to play with the Mrs but it doesn't look like it's ever coming so I may as well crack on when I get a gap from the million other things I'm playing.

A shame, but there is still 2 chunks of DLC to arrive, so there is a slither of hope it may materialise. Either way it’s definitely worth finishing. The final world is probably my favourite of the lot.

I will definitely get it done but my backlog is crazy at the moment so I can't add another to it just yet.
Trying to resist adding diablo as well

I bought it, put the cart in my switch and then forgot to ever start it. My backlog is absolutely shameful. Loads of full price Switch games like this.
