I guess if I was wielding a massive pipe, I'd probably look like I've shat myself when swinging said pipe. I think it's fair to assume James fully unloaded shortly after his arrival at Silent Hill

For anyone bothered:
-Two modes on offer Quality at 1440p30fps and Performance at 1080p60fps -Quality has stuff like better reflections, RTGI and RT shadows, much thicker fog -Performance has a considerable hit to visuals, moreso in interiors where you get lower quality shadows, global illumination, reflections, fog isn't stripped but definitely not as thick and more transparent -Performance mode does not have a locked 60fps but is pretty close most of the time but does drop as low as 40fps
Looking at the footage both modes look really nice but that indoor bits look completely different in Performance mode. It's actually massive.

Similarly to Alan Wake 2 on launch, I think this will benefit from the quality mode and more cinematic 30fps

I thought this was only coming out on PS at the moment then I saw the pc version. Grabbed that instead so I can have 60 FPS and a bit of shiny, never really played the original so I'm really looking forward to this.
Quite looking forward to what Jess who used to be at giantbomb makes of this as silent hill is her favourite thing but she really hates bloober team due to their previous games basically being a series of stolen concepts.

Good news about all the good reviews. I'm not the biggest Bloober fan out there, but I've always thought they got too much flak - yes, many of their previous games were basically just haunted houses in disguise, but that never meant this remake had to be the same, and the talent was clearly there.
I'll probably wait a bit before buying this, though. Too many games in the backlog, and too much money to spend in the next couple months. In the meanwhile, I'll wait to see how it runs on PC. If the PS5 is struggling to run at 60fps, my 6600 XT won't fare any better. High quality 30fps might be a better choice for this kind of game anyway.

Here's hoping for a 40fps update.
That's always my sweet spot when given the choice.

I hope success means they release the older games digitally for new consoles, like Capcom have done for Resi.

I hope success means they release the older games digitally for new consoles, like Capcom have done for Resi. Agreed, having the original SH1-4 out for consoles and PC (atm only 4 is available in GoG) would be nice. Then again, the so-called HD collection was anything but that and they had announced at the time that they had lost the final source code or something along those lines, so perhaps our best bet would be for Konami to locate and port the original PC versions. Best case scenario, they employ the team behind the Enhanced edition - a man can always dream...

For some reason I keep confusing Blooper And Bluepoint.
All this time I've thought the people doing this were the same remake people who did all the other remakes 😅
Still, only a few days to go. It lands on my birthday, best present ever! Hopefully. 😉

Don't feel bad though, I made that mistake myself

Good point. I attempted to play the PC port of 4, but my Deck wasn’t having it, so I resorted to emulation, which works surprisingly well.

I've never played a SH game. I remember seeing some footage/trailer for the first game waaaaay back in time but I think my mind just linked it with Resident Evil as being a 3rd person shock/horror game. I'd already tried RE (and then RE2) but could not get on with it at all so I just never entertained SH or any RE game since.
All the love for SH in here is making me think I should try it since my gaming interests have changed in the past ... counts ... 25 fucking o_0 years?!?!

Add me to the list of peeps that's never played a SH game. I played a demo of SH1 or 2 back in the day but got lost or stuck so gave up.
RE2 I think is the only horror game I've completed but I've started Deadspace due to it being on PSN. I'll see if my nerves hold out but SH2 does seem loved by many.
Do soulsborne games class as horror? Probably not but they're certainly pretty grim.

Bloodborne is absolutely a horror.

It's horror but I don't think it's actually scary. Unless you count the fear you get near ledges or when you realise you have one health syringe left and you haven't reached 2nd phase yet.

Bloodborne's probably the scariest game I've played, in that it has horror elements *and* the usual Soulsborne, "Holy shit, I've got so many runes on me, zero heals, and I don't know where the next lantern is!" stuff going on.

Really glad Silent Hill 2 is getting such good reviews, even though it ain't my jam.
Hopefully Konami's next remake will be received with the same degree of positivity!

To be fair, much like Genocide Hill ft. Big Bird in Elden Ring, the Cum Dungeon mitigates a lot of the second point in Bloodborne

Side note, I really wish posting PS5 videos on here was as easy as on Xbox... Even the app apparently only allows up to 3 minute videos, and most of my captures that I want to show are longer than that

Bloodborne is definitely horror. It isn't out and out scary, but it is filled with dread and has plenty of disturbing imagery, along with tapping into plenty of lovecraftian themes of he unknown and unknowable.
Dark Souls occasionally dips into horror, but not so much. New Londo, particularly the story around its flooding, I would put into horror.

New Londo definitely. And Oolacile. It’s the history of both places coupled with the oppressive atmosphere, plus the chimes in the former and the screaming of children in the latter.
