It's good, I'm still playing it.
In fact I just saw credits on the base game for the first time. Completed the legacy missions for my trader, Martin "Danger" Wallaby. The name alone made it worth seeing things through with him.
Anyway I'll be starting a new community, not least because I absolutely hated the desert map with a great bloody mountain ridge across the middle making it a pain to traverse.

Love the game. Devs have done great work updating it but hopefully MS let them release release a more near finished product with 3

I still dip in and out. It's quite cathartic running around killing zombies for the hell of it.

I started a new community and went up to Dread difficulty. Thought I'd got the hang of it, the opening couple of hours were tense due to lack of resources but I managed to recruit a few people and moved to a bigger base (rural police station) with much better in-built facilities. Then I was clearing out an infestation with a follower and got surprised by a feral and the follower had no chance, life gone in seconds. I didn't even see it happen.
So now I'll have food problems because he was my survivor with "Gardening" skill.
Bloody ferals

What's the co-op like on this? Am I right in thinking that you don't really have a shared base/community which you can drop in/out of?

Trumbull Valley is getting a massive update on 1st September. In this new version of the iconic map, players will learn about the latest developments in this area, discovering new characters and storylines and resolving long-running plot threads. Players can also look forward to six new bases, as well as unique weapons and outfits that can only be found in Trumbull Valley. New missions and new achievements await those who choose to settle on this new map. news.xbox.com/en-us/2021/08/24/state-of-decay-2-returns-to-trumbull-valley-in-the-homecoming-update/

It does make sense that they'd do that next - they had the whole valley already mapped for Heartland, but there was only the one preset base you could settle in. You could even see which other bases they're planning because they already have fortifications (eg the fire station opposite the run of plague walls).
Will definitely check it out - I haven't had the heart to go back to my Dread difficulty community after that unfortunate incident a week ago.

Graduated from "I'm a feeb" to "Standard". It's a bit of a jump, I'm on day 2 now and pootling around in a beaten up old taxi trying to scrape together enough ammo to kill a couple of plague hearts. At this stage on wussbag difficulty, there'd be one plague heart left (in case I need some samples for anything), my inventory would be overflowing and I'd have a fleet of fully repaired military trucks.

I found Standard ok and Dread terrifying, but that's probably because I got used to it from the start. I'd never attempt a plague heart with just bullets though- get a workshop and 3 pipe bombs and you won't need to fire a shot if you're quick enough.

It's probably changed quite considerably, it's certainly not a buggy, glitchy mess. The movement and vehicle handling is a bit janky sometimes, and I wish that accidentally walking off the edge of something didn't commit you to dropping and you could pull yourself back up but those are minor gripes. Give it a shot, what's the worst that could happen?

You could get annoyed and throw the pad, knocking over a candle which burns your house down leaving you homeless with a charred, dead hamster as a pet

Standard mode got a lot easier once I picked up the rifle ammo press, that and a silenced AK47 that hold 76 rounds. A full clip takes out a heart quickly enough that the zombies all die before they get to you (even towards the end when the hearts take a bit more punishment). Also, the Red Talon contractor you can pick up for free during a Trumbull Valley quest is virtually indestructible.

In mildly exciting news, according to true achievements, I've only got another 182 zombies to go until I unlock the kill 10,000 zombies achievement.

Think my game might have glitched as I'm not getting any missions. Main story wise I've only got the final trader quest but I've still got the Wilkinson stuff to complete but nothings progressing.
Don't want to have to move to another map and back as I believe that resets everything including the blood plagues?

I wouldn't worry too much. If you're in a position to complete the final mission I'd say go for it.
Before you start it don't forget to load up whatever characters you know you're going to use again with useful stuff to carry forward to your next game. I think I started my current run with the 2x outpost antenna, the haven device, rifle ammo press, heavy vehicle upgrade kit plus various guns, a full stack of scent block and plague cure plus a few other bits and pieces. Makes it a bit easy mode, but I don't mind that.

Yeah I'm probably going to have to just finish this run. Just annoying as I'm pretty sure I'm near the end of the sub story.
I've done all 3 legacy arcs now and I did like how the warlord one ended with my leader going around getting people to swear loyalty.. ended up killing 2 groups

I think I did trader first.
I think I've only ever taken the builder and trader boons, are the other two any good?
I got my achievement for 10k zombies yesterday \o/ and as an added bonus it was also the last one I needed to 100% the base game.

You get free supplies every day with the sheriff perk which is nice. Can't remember what the warlord gets you. Might be you start with a bunch of free gear

Regarding the Wilkerson questline, did Ray Santos spawn in your game? Because if he didn't then his story will dead end after you visit his old house.

Had a look at the other boons, you get a few weapons and consumables along the way. Utilities and influence are definitely the way to go. Picked up a new infirmary mod today and can now craft my own scent block without needing the landmark outpost. That's definitely going on the list of things to take with me.

I've never used any of the zombie meds that give you slight blood plague, are they good then? The few I collected went straight into the vault of too-precious-to-ever-actually-use, think I saw an Elixir from FF VII while I was back there.

Last Misson was.. giving the meds to one of Lillys people The other mission that seems to have just stopped is the lady doing tests on the plague walls

The botanist is unrelated but it's not a bad quest.
This is the quest progression from the achievement guide (descriptions and spoilers have been removed)
-Day 1-
Lilly calls Ray about the newcomers in the Valley
Head to the farthest point North (the East fork) to trigger the first quest chain:
Meeting CLEO: The Doctor is Calling
IzzBee's Mystery: Jurassic Junction
-Day 2-
The Wilkerson Reckoning: Homestead
-Day 3-
Lilly calls Ray about a problem with a community (If this doesn't happen within the first couple days restart since it means Ray did not spawn and he is REQUIRED for achievement)
Meeting CLEO: Critical Download
-Day 4-
IzzBee's Mystery: A Cryptic Signal
-Day 5-
The Santos Legacy: All Good Things (this is the start of Ray's quest line which is required for the achievement. If it doesn't trigger in a couple days it means Ray isn't on the map and you need to restart)
-Day 6-
Meeting CLEO: Signal Interference
-Day 7-
Nothing happened for me
-Day 8-
IzzBee's Mystery: Breaking the Code
-Day 9-
Meeting CLEO: The Haven Protocol
-Day 10-
Ray calls the Church of Ascension for help but they don't answer.
-Day 11-
The Santos Legacy: Going Home
The Wilkerson Reckoning: Buried Treasure KEEP THE PHOTO AS IT IS REQUIRED FOR A MISSION TO TRIGGER
-Day 12-
The Wilkerson Reckoning: Memories
-Day 13-
The Santos Legacy: Second Chances
-Day 14-
The Wilkerson Reckoning: A new Coalition
