Fair enough! I like him, can see why Arteta wanted him - his distribution and ability on the ball is excellent and gives us variety. Whether he's worth that, who knows (and frankly, I don't really care, well over any of that).

It certainly seems like he's been frozen out.
Of course, we don't see what goes on in training and behind the scenes but it's a very odd situation. He looked decent enough in the league cup defeat - probably better than Fred has, but otherwise I'm not sure how he's supposed to play his way into contention with a scant few minutes here and there.

It's clear Ole plays favourites massively regardless of form. His career here is over if McTominay is coming straight in for 90 minutes every game, straight after surgery looking about 5 yards off the pace.

Perhaps a bit of recency bias, sure! But he does it against everyone. What's the general feeling about White's return? The thing is, he was a fringe player for ages and was only a regular last season.
He never had a match where you felt he was critical to the team. One of those players who was always present but it wasn't clear what they added beyond the basics.
This isn't to say he's average, he just never really excelled in my opinion. £50m is an fantastic deal for Albion, I don't think he's worth it but I may eat my words in the years to come.
Our season so far shows that we didn't need him anyway. I think he'll get a warm enough reception. If it wasn't for Southgate calling him up in a pinch (and never playing him) I don't think he would have gone for even close to £50m.
The downside to White leaving is that I can't say he lives round the corner from me here in Worthing anymore, I think he's renting the house out to some Brighton academy player now. But "I live just round the corner from a Brighton academy player" isn't as impressive as "Premier League player". That England call up absolutely stuck £30m on the price tag, huge for Brighton.

If Fred was a horse, you'd take him out the back and shoot him.
He's very nearly good. Often neat and tidy but his reading of the game, knowing when opposition players are nearby and casual touches and passes render him essentially pointless. Three times in less than half an hour, he's given the ball away under no pressure.

Good half with some nice football. Fred is such a liability though, he gets caught on the ball all the time and immediately puts us in danger. Happened 3 times in that half at least and Everton get a shot on goal.

Not quite right, Leeds were having bids in the region of £25m turned down the summer his loan expired, as Brighton already valued him at 30+ before then playing a full first prem season. |
