Genuinely cannot believe anyone in their right mind thinks Trossard should be off there. Ref’s just ruining games for no reason. It’s not a conspiracy they’re just fastidious jobs worths that are desperate to be center of attention. It’s not the refs fault though. It’s a rule that’s been brought in. He is doing his job. It a semi stupid rule, one that should be judged more on intent but it’s a rule. Exactly - I don't think any of us want players to be sent off for that, but we all know it's the rule.

It looks like he’s already gone in for the kick before the whistle has blown - he would have to make a split second adjustment to not get sent off.

It’s common sense not letter of the law.

Same as Rice - Trossard knows the rules and also knew what he was doing. It's a split second error of misjudgement, but the same is true of all red cards really.

If it was for the challenge I'd still be annoyed of course but at least that's a reasonable subjective take around the level of force. Sending someone off for kicking a ball they've already committed to as you blow the whistle is malicious. You play to the whistle.

Rice knew what he was doing. Not sure you can really say trissard did. Looked like he was going for the ball as the whistle blew.
Look at me defending arsenal. I’d be annoyed if that was given against spurs though.

I was thinking this week about referees. Such a weird job that you’d think no-one in their right mind would want to do. Apart from jobsworths unfortunately. It’s literally their dream job.

Playing to the whistle is surely the most basic instruction for all footballers.

I have no issue with Trossard getting a second yellow, but Doku not getting booked has turned this into way more of a thing than it should be. It was blatant and inexcusable.

Are we going to have to sign Mark Clattenburg?

Having calmed down, it was a daft challenge to make. One of those "given the ref a decision to make". I don't think Trossard heard the whistle so should be given the benefit of the doubt though. Especially given the Doku example earlier.
Surprised we've taken Saka off to go back 5. Worries me slightly. Saka virtually never comes off.

City away is essentially the hardest game in world football, low block is basically the only approach worth trying with a man disadvantage. Arteta was never taking off one of his six footers so it was either Saka or Martinelli and Martinelli is faster for the outball.

This isn’t great for the neutral.
Half an hour of bus parking with City passing it to death around the box.
Much more fun in the first half.

If we even manage to limit them to one point, this team will deserve a medal (pref Premier League Winners).
Basically football as torture from here on in. I've started drinking.

Does that mean Lewis-Skelly has more Premier League bookings than minutes? Got to be a record.
