That display looks phenomenal!!! So, the general consensus is that the Saturn V is the better option? With the Ecto-1, I also like the stylish black box - looks really well put together (I’m a sucker for packaging and limited editions). They're both fantastic sets. You won't be disappointed with either of them. You could always buy them both and tell yourself that you got an amazing 50% discount on the pair of them.

You'd think modern smartphones would be able slam dunk that type of funk. Modern technology is built around the fact that people need to keep on movin', not going back to correct mistakes. Cos when the lights go out, you need to be able to depend on your phone.

Anyone bought the Sonic set and received it? I bought it from lego on the first, DPD received info but not the parcel on the 4th and no update since. I don't usually buy direct with lego on launch day so not sure what the usual turnaround time is.

They’re probably having staffing issues like everyone else at the moment. I’ve got a parcel coming direct from another company that was supposed to be delivered yesterday, but they only picked it up at nine o’clock last night

Yeah, got it on weds (ordered as a guest account in the early hours of the 1st, after seeing in the new year). I received email notifications of it dispatching and being out for delivery that linked to DPD's tracking. Also got an email invoice the day before it was delivered. Hope that helps.

How do you pack Lego sets when moving house? We have about half a dozen medium sized sets, some more fragile than others, I was gonna wrap each one gently in a towel, pack all of them in a box or so I can take them to work and store under my desk until the we have somewhere to display them at the new house. I'm anticipating a breakage or two maybe. Any thoughts?

Take them all apart and have fun rebuilding them again 😊

I put them in plastic bags. Which we still get by the armful when going to the supermarket. Be worth paying for bunch. Put them in bag, tie off top so it’s sealed, place together in box. That way any bits fall of during move stay with their set. Bigger sets, use a bin bag

Join them all together into a big lego ball, katamari damacy style, and roll them to your new house. As a bonus, you'll probably pick up some additional sets on the way.

Seems we (I) have accumulated 6 big Lego sets over the last few years, retrieving them out of the loft there was finally no hiding them from the wife. Not overly impressed.

And nothing says 'I'm sorry' like a massive Death Star on the dinner table.
It's the way to a girl's heart.

Harry Potter Hogwarts Icons and Assembly Square sets which I've somehow not mentioned to wifey (yet). My time will come..

Well rightly or wrongly having adopted the 'bag' principal I've used cling film instead - seems to already kind of hold them together a bit before the towel packaging, time will tell I guess. On a negative side it's clear that having sat on the shelf for a few years the white's at least have faded a bit and all of the exposed horizontal surfaces have accumulated a rather unpleasant layer of congealed dust, a bit greasy, not quite sure how that will get addressed. A complete strip down, thorough clean and rebuild I suppose. I'm not too bothered about the colour fading per se but I'm thinking I may have to be super meticulous about rebuilding them or else things like the Mini or Camper Van roof will be a mismatch of shades of white.

Has anyone tried any of the third party led kight kits around? (Game of bricks, lightailing but there are others). Looks cool, but quality might be an issue from what I've read.

For cleaning Lego I’ve not found anything better than a blush brush. It’s incredibly satisfying and not at all laborious
Well, other than taking it all apart and washing the pieces but fuck that.
If the dust has sat a long time, then an air compressor with a blower nozzle will both clean them off right good but separate the pieces with good clutch from those without. Recommend placing set where it’s surrounded, say a large open cardboard box.
This involves a good bit more effort and noise. But the satisfaction levels? You are essentially using air to pressure wash Lego constructions.

As I’m on it, I’ve another tip. This one I landed on myself. Being lazy and not feeling like getting up to get a razor blade when I’d poorly placed a sticker, I tried the edge of the sticker sheet itself.
As long as the sticker has a corner that’s not been pressed down you should be able to slide the sheet underneath and free enough sticker to get a grip on it. Razor blades always seem to scrunch up the corner as you try to get purchase.

Funnily enough I was going to ask about the best way to clean sets... I've inherited a classic technic digger set that looks like it's been retired after a few decades of digging holes in the garden.
Was thinking of soaking in warm soapy water and then using a soft toothbrush and rinsing and then drying.... Dreading the thought of actually doing it though!

That sounds like a washing for sure.
At least old sets have relatively few pieces and fuck all tiny delicate doo dads for decoration purposes only

I also use a blusher brush for my son's display Lego. It's a massive pain in the arse.

The thing is our Lego sets have been displayed in the diner end of a kind of kitchen/diner and consequently it's not just a layer of dust, there's clearly some (cooking) grease mixed in so it's stuck on and smears, I fear the only solution will be proper cleaning. The eldest had half a dozen small cars and other oddities on his window sill, I wrapped these loosely in a towel and their own box, when I opened the boot to get the boxes out to store at work his box feel out the boot onto the floor. Oh well.
